It’s so funny because like how often does Rockstar release a game? Once every five years? What is the purpose?
Maybe this means Red Dead 2 PC is imminent.
Steam client API is one of the components it installs.
I have heard or thought about red dead 2 basically not at all since its release so that would be interesting
I really wanted to get into Red Dead 2 the same way I got into RDR, and I’m kinda sad it just didn’t happen
about 10 years overdue
i was so excited for red dead 2 i even replayed red dead 1 right before it came out. that game still makes me hoot and holler with excitement! but they took away everything exciting and fast about the first game and made you hold down buttons forever and worry about 7000000 different numbers getting too low
and everyones like ‘oh it gets easier it moves past that’ but i still have to hold buttons down FOR FUCKING EVER
that game was the most disappointed in a game ive been in a WHILE, im afraid something similar will happen if bully 2 comes out, and bully is totally one of my favorite games
it’s so much worse on Mac where you actually use the steam UI in modes other than “tiny list in corner” and “big picture”
yeah i pre-ordered it and everything, i was super excited because the first game is just that good. i feel for like 2 months a lot of people were like “no guys red dead 2 is really good trust me!” but i played like, 4 hours of it and the fucking rockstar control scheme has really outworn its welcome. i even like some of the simulationist shit like being able to pick shit up off the shelves in the store and having to meticulously skin animals etc. but they made the controls so fucking laborious and awkward for EVERYTHING (i love accidentally shooting people in town constantly!!) that it made it absolutely no fun to play. also the labor situation being so gross and terrible at rockstar kind of diminished any enthusiasm i couldve had about the game so theres that too. its just funny that i havent heard anybody talk about it since it came out because its such a masterpiece compared to the first game apparently
i really wouldnt mind all the slow controls OR the meters to take care of things, but when you put both of them together its a fucking slog
the few people who tried to convince me the game was good never finished it themselves anyway
no trust me what red dead really needed was the john marston diet program and your horse suddenly falling over dead because its been dirty for too long and you dont know what mission you need to do to get a hair brush to fix it.
a horse dying after not showering for 18 hours really pulls me out of my immersion, as a gamer,
lol that just makes me think of that article about how red dead online was unplayable if you were black because gamers were roleplaying as fucking slave catchers
also remember the ‘punching the feminist’ video
rockstar really had great timing releasing an open world free for all game where racism and sexism is canon
and THAT STILL didnt make gamers talk about it for more than a month
is there any kind of comparison point for this? some huge mega-project from a dev who can afford to make one (through terrible labour practices nonetheless) that’s so extensively simulationist and yet remains a console game that doesn’t really let you dig into any of that, that ultimately no one really likes it after all the praise leaks out?
I kind of want to play it just to understand what went on, it seems like a bizarre phenomenon
it seems like they made a very expensive steam early access UE4 survival game
I love Red Dead 2 and I love playing it but I don’t love it enough to constantly talk about it or defend it from criticism.
yeah I’m just fascinated that this is an audience that, if it actually exists, I have completely lost any touch with understanding
except that early access UE4 survival game is full of shit like “sure is bad what we did to the natives huh…” and “capitalism is BAD” and its made by two millionaire ghoul vampires who think putting “Post Op” on the side of a truck is a funny joke
for the record I would have really liked Red Dead Redemption 2 if it was more like Shenmue and less like a Rockstar game. Thank you.
