SECRETS
Something somebody wants to keep quiet.
Carrier: this is who or what has the truth.
Agenda: this is why it’s a secret, and why they’re working to keep it that way.
Layers: create a couple levels of semi-plausible explanation to conceal the truth.
Set the Hook: something has to catch the player’s attention. How do they learn that there’s something to investigate?
Off-putting: something needs to be uncanny or creepy at every level.
CLUES
Revelation: figure out what horrible truth is about to be uncovered.
Container: the form the clue takes: physical evidence, documents, an overheard conversation.
Surprise: a great clue should seem innocuous, but should connect with earlier info to cause alarm.
