Oh weird the bombs are non-blocking.
i started working on a video about this game the other day just so i could post it in this thread lol and yeah it plays very different to bomberman due to the bombs not blocking you or enemies

Today I learned Namco made a Bomberman clone except it’s medieval fantasy and everyone has chain whips???
Kind of awesome to see Bomberman with a close range melee weapon

Super Bomberman (1) is the best multi-player entry imo, but it’s single-player was a lot of fun to play through in co-op too. The levels are just non-scrolling arenas. I like the “purity”, but it does have bosses.
I also enjoyed the first PC Engine entry (before 93) and think of it as pretty essential as well if you want to know what made the core mechanics shine. The later entries add more stuff, but these are great to start with.

i love how cute the 90’s bomerman looked, just a perfect round design of eyebrows and explosives
the one I played a bunch was Mega Bomberman with my college friends, usually just on two controllers and passing them around in turns
i remember being a little kid and going to an older relative’s house and being obsessed with the TurboExpress they had, playing a little of Bomberman ‘93 if i asked politely (i never asked politely)
i am old enough to remember that you could rent a Nintendo 64 console from Blockbuster for the weekend and the two games i played the most with were Super Mario 64 and Bomberman 64. i got the latter recompiled on my Steam Deck recently and it’s just been sitting there waiting for me to play it for 15 minutes and not touch it again

omg… what does he do…
He’s supposed to say voice lines when you touch contact points underneath it, but it’s dead as far as i can tell with seemingly no way to change batteries. For all I know though there’s something else broken in it aside from power
