I have now tried and bailed on Bomerman Hero, finding it a particularly rough play that feels like it was aimed at very young kids, more of a virtual sandbox than a game. And I like virtual sandboxes! Probably my favorite N64 game was the stunt track in Rush 2! But this was completely braindead.
Looking into it, apparently it started as a Bonk game, got cancelled, and was reworked into this. Definitely feels like a Mario 64 clone that couldn’t capture a lot of what made that game work. My full thoughts:
That said, the music is very very fun,
It is known for its drum and bass and acid techno soundtrack, composed by Jun Chikuma. She went on to say that Bomberman Hero was “the most remarkable title in terms of music among the Bomberman series”.
So yeah, I’ve moved on to Bomberman 64: The Second Attack, which, after a rough sewer level start, has been a lot, lot better.
