Looks like it’s still directed by Shutaro/Curry the Kid, so hopefully this means he’s past the recent medical situation he had.

GOTY when it comes out

I wonder how they’ll tie the story together between this and the previous game. If they do at all? Does this take place earlier in history?

Okay, so if we’re doing switching heroes, I need them to call out each other’s names when switching, and for them to be named Jarlotte and Seanathan.

it looks pretty shit, but the first game also looked and looks like shit but I ended up liking it a lot, so I’m in

as a por apologist, i’m absolutely ready to defend this and hope it’s as gangly, broken and stupid as that game (with better level design).

por apologist? i thought that game was universally beloved just from vibes alone

i thought the rough consensus was that it was the worst of the ds trilogy, but perhaps the consensus has changed. igavania ranking is a hotbed of critical debate.

We’re so far away from the heyday of these games that nowadays the only people who even remember they exist do so out of love for all of them.

For some reason, I hadn’t played PoR until the recent collection but I think it’s pretty good in the end. Definitely better than DoS but not as good as OoE. Thinking back, I tend to like all the games in order of recentness though.

I remember more differences of opinion about the GBA trilogy. Circle has the best platforming, Harmony has the best music, and Aria has the best artwork and storytelling. So I used to hear advocacy for all three. (For me personally, the best one is Aria.)

since my favourite thing in aria is the look of the braziers , it peaks in the menu

At the time I felt a slight undercurrent of distaste for PoR for continuing the anime art style and being something of a side story with no real Belmont or Dracula. I would rank it only a step or 2 over DoS mostly for content. Sisters mode and Richter/Maria mode leans to some extra play time. DoS kinda felt like a cash in to get on the DS launch window but still felt like a solid castle and search action. I don’t feel like PoR’s dual heroes mechanics felt very capitalized on outside of some specific puzzles and encounters.

I think Charlotte in general was not well thought out. They gave her so few combat options with even basic spells having too long charge times. Not to mention, her spells don’t even upgrade with usage like Johnathan’s insane subweapon leveling system.

Now that a sequel got announced it felt like the right time to get around to playing the original Bloodstained and at approaching 5 hours and 40% of the map explored… is the main intended path through the castle map kinda ill considered or is it just me?

The worst bit was recently as I had to google what the hell to do after the double dragon boss as going around the map I had pretty much reached everything I obviously could. Turns out the answer was that I did not talk to a random out of the way NPC enough times for him to bring up something seemingly unrelated to him, at which point he would give me a “key” that is required for a mandatory progression bit.

lol dang
The only part I remember being stuck on is using Bloodless’s ability on the fountain to enter the lower half of the castle

I don’t really remember much of the original progression any more because every time I’ve replayed it, it’s with max settings chaos randomizer. It’s too fun to get utter broken weapons or skills early, or alternatively have nothing and just struggle for ages

just realised Harmony of Dissonance has even more similar windows
