Bloodstained: being a castlevania fan is a complex relationship

His sword has a description mentioning something about being to able to ā€œrend/cut the moonā€ - there’s two places with noticeable crimson moons, the first being where you fight Gebel. Get into the second half of that battle. Extremely Richter/Shaft and the special specs from SotN

Thanks i never would have guessed

It’s such a good detail, too.

You go through that hallway before fighting Zangetsu for the first time, and see that big red moon clipping over everything in the foreground, and it’s easy to think ā€œHah! What a huge oversight! C’mon Igarashi!ā€

And then you find out, nah, its just a big ol’ demon hiding out as a red orb.

My Castlevania instincts brought me right to the Santa Hat.

Just beat this with 99.8 map completion. Did the secret area too.
I was overleveled but this game rules
just got 100% map. Im probably going to try and max everything too, im getting such good vibes from this game.

I feel kind of silly for being so suspicious of the Kickstarter. In retrospect I probably should have ponied up to be a poltergeist or whatever.

Maybe not for $1500.

Is this at least as decent as SotN?

its as good as ecclesia but its not a rich tapestry of detail like symphony

Oh well

I beat the game at like 98% map completion? My only complaint initially (within the context Castlevania) was that the more limited move set in comparison to the DS games made boss battles a little less thrilling but by the end of Bloodstained I found out I actually don’t miss it that much. You can’t quite ā€œstyleā€ during these fights like you used to but there is a satisfying MMORPG quality to this game’s boss battles. They are sponges and its all about optimizing your loadouts which I think suits this style of game well.

I’m at the end of this game now. I think the only thing I have left to do is a secret boss fight (the librarian). And maybe trying to figure out where the remaining 0.4% of the map might be, if I want an excuse to wander around a little more.

I’ve enjoyed the game enough to be tempted to try it on a harder difficulty, but I think that if I do that I will wait until they add co-op play (which the back cover already says the game supports, so maybe they just ran out of time).

Even though someone says it early in the game, I forgot until the very end that a leveled-up passive shard becomes a skill shard. Though it didn’t really matter on Normal difficulty. I rarely had any difficulty with an area or boss.

As much as Bloodstained is full of echoes of SOTN, it never rises to that game’s heights in graphics, music, boss design, charm, or anything else. Maybe the controls are more fluid and responsive. It’s been so many years that I can’t really compare them.

But by that I don’t want to imply that it’s not worth playing for someone who likes SOTN and is looking for more along those lines. It certainly exceeded my expectations, for what that’s worth.

Wow could’ve really done without ā€œDEUS VULT SARACENSā€ in the backer messages in the credits.

Jesus. Wonder if they could be talked into patching that shit out.

One could hope.

i just beat the gambler and i can’t believe how easy the aegis plate letting you stand on the ceiling makes that fight.

it’s obviously intentional, though i don’t know why they’d give such a late game boss such an obvious and powerful weakness

Got the SOTN-style premature ending. Those finely honed secret room finding instincts from 201.7%ing all the old games brought me to what I assume is the big secret going by its decor.

I’m currently getting my ass kicked in the desert. The difficulty really ramped up here. I don’t think I had seen the game over screen at all until yesterday, and then they just kept coming.

Thanks to that one surprise, I’m never going to be able to watch Slow TV on Pluto anymore.

ugh, why didn’t I think about this!?

I’m bummed the bone toss doesn’t do anything special against dog enemies.
