Bloodstained: being a castlevania fan is a complex relationship

yeah somehow everyone seems to think this one turned out pretty well. looked like a long disaster project to me, good on them if they pulled it off.

yeah this and all the personality in the menus is actually gonna make me buy it

the thing is, iā€™m not that far off from that. and some part of me wonders if thatā€™s the only thing that the game would screw up, and therefore if i passed it, would i be ok? but more than likely, there are probably other events that get screwed up later on, as well, so iā€™ll just wait

had a friend over last night who was on the fence about the game, but after playing through the first area and a bit after, heā€™s now ready to buy it. the game feels good.

Yeah, I think the response their Twitter account gave was along the lines of ā€œWell, you have until early next week to beat it!ā€ Not super reassuring.

I wasnā€™t super happy with the movement in the game at the start, but you pretty quickly get enough abilities and shards that things start to feel really good.

Big fan of the bat projectile so far, and the triple archer shot. Got a few familiars that Iā€™m trying to rotate around, see how they do.

The wealth of small touches and flavor go a long way, most crudities are negligible cuz the further you getā€¦

ā€¦the more it rocks.

I just hung out and let her jam for a solid couple minutes, great stuff.

I like the piano in that flooded swampy area where Miriam will play the main theme for a while if you sit long enough.

I also like how a lot of the shards just go all out. Hereā€™s a book with terrifying flesh pages that follows you around and mumbles. Hereā€™s a shard that turns you into a bunny girl.

Just got the Convex Glasses from the old woman who requests different foods and legitimately laughed out loud when I put them on.

The spirit of Alucardā€™s Secret Boots lives on.

Spoilers maybe but hell yeah, the fairy familiar shouted something and kept pointing at a wall, and after I hit it a few times a fried egg fell out. I love this game.

they seem to have gone completely bonkers with the object modelling which completely vindicates the graphical style and which there was no indication of before release

Elaborate please

as others have said, it has a lot of that PS1 ā€œit turns out the engine can do this so we put it in!ā€ spirit after years of igavania just being ā€œeasyish anime sidescrollerā€

Ah got it, thanks

This game is tempting me. I am not a Castlevania fan at all.

If itā€™s on the shorter side I might get it?

Havenā€™t caught estimates of the sort around, I see at least 10 toward 15 hours as a safe bet (especially if you donā€™t do much Castlevania)

Some of the items are kinda hilarious, and not far from what @Felix is talking about. Two examples, two minor spoilers for cosmetic stuff: Thereā€™s a pair of Convex Glasses that causes the screen to zoom super far in. Likewise, thereā€™s a monocle you can find that lets you ā€œlook down on the world,ā€ which zooms the screen way out.

Pretty sure I accidentally happened my way into the final area of the game, given its, uh, opulence.

Gonna recommend having the fairy familiar around. Sheā€™s not the most exciting of the bunch Iā€™ve found so far, but sheā€™s really good at pointing out breakable walls, which helped me find (definite spoiler) the incredibly difficult 8-Bit area next to Igaā€™s portrait.

This is easily up there with the GBA and DS games, for sure. Maybe even a little better, given how free-wheeling it all feels.

howlongtobeat.com doesnā€™t have an estimate yet either so idk. Itā€™s cool that they plan to put out so much free DLC but I donā€™t know if Iā€™ll be back for that, Iā€™m terrible at staying true to videogames. I have too many flings.

This is cool because Aria of Sorrow is my fave Castlevania (not having played many)

finished my first playthrough. definitely the best igavania since aria.

Thatā€™s one of the first places I checked too, then saw a couple mentions between 10-15.

Iā€™m at about 6 hrs and impressed to have covered so much ground and only just now hit 50% covered. I know thereā€™s a flip/reverse screen mechanic they teased in a trailer but donā€™t really know (or exactly want to yet) if thereā€™s anything full mirror like Symphony.

noice, Iā€™m sold

That and that I saw in the steam trailer thereā€™s a shovel knight character to play as?? I donā€™t know why I put that in spoiler tags if itā€™s in a trailer but I guess it got me so excited that I wish they hadnā€™t spoiled it for me
