baldur's gate & friends

I don’t know anything about BG3 per se but I’ve played a lot of DivOS2 and if what you’re saying is you can select either 1. a named character with a background and story or 2. a kind of anonymous generic guy you can make your own, you always want to roll with #1. There’s individual stories and quests (and xp!) associated with the named characters that you miss out on with a generic dude.

i just put some of these games on my steam wishlist the other day! it’s nice to finally loosen up and accept the roots of my childhood ff obsession. my partner plays neverwinter and if i ever have time i think i would really enjoying diving into it myself.

i love lore and listening to stories so i think these games will deliver! i’d like to formally thank the pple at dimension 20 for helping realize that dnd really does rock. i’m ab to get an irl game started. i already have die picked out.

anyway, what i remember most ab these kinds of games is felix’s enthusiam for deadfire. i keep seeing it on sale but i keep putting it off because i wanna play some pathfinder games real bad first instead.

cuba, you are right ab transistor. it’s a wonderful little game. i sort of cheesed the end but i would love to play through it and do more challenges and just play it to death like i did with bastion. the story also got to me in a big way. i love gayships etc but the way things play out in transistor makes it relatable no matter what your orientation is.

it’s just good stuff. i got teary and could really put myself into red’s shoes for sure. god i wanna play it again. thanks for bringing it up!

Conversely, I thought the origin stories in DivOS2 were pretty uninteresting (with the exception of Red Prince) and didn’t seem worth it honestly. Larian has also suggested that your first character should be a custom character.

Also, didn’t we have a bg3 thread already? Maybe merge it with this one!?

i made this thread when they announced bg3 maybe that’s what you’re thinking of

The newer thread’s here:

i had one of the pre-made lads in my original sin 2 party and his confession of love for my main character was fucking hilariously cringe so fingers crossed for more of that

oh gosh this is nice

had been too long since one of these

I really want to play this but I’m going to try to hold off since armored core vi is coming later this month. If nothing else, I’m really curious to see how 5e rules work in practice. I’ve read them but I’ve never actually played in a 5e game.

this might not help you understand since the rules are heavily altered from the books

Are we talking just modifications that make sense for a computer game or “this plays more like divinity” levels of heavily altered?

I haven’t played it yet myself but it seems they’ve changed a lot of spells to play more like divinity (which in my opinion is good because 5e has trash combat)

edit: D&D 5e Rule Changes - Baldur's Gate 3 Wiki

the wiki has a handy list of all the rules changes (and there are a lot! I’m excited to get into this because most of these changes seem like things I would want to port back out into 5e)

I’m mostly hoping to get a feel for how things scale as characters level up and combat is a big part of that. From what I’ve seen of it, 5e doesn’t look like my cup of tea but I am excited to finally try it out.

I guess seeing what they changed may give an idea of what doesn’t work in the official rules I guess! I wonder if any of this stuff will be part of D&D Next or whatever they’re calling it.

they shouldve made a game that uses 4e when it was around. a good one anyway idk if theres some shitty one out there

none that officially adapted the rules even though it’s such a no brainer since the rules are practically designed to be adapted to a video game, real missed opportunity there

all the grogs going iT pLaYs tOo mUcH lIkE a vIdEoGaMe well yeah motherfucker thats the point people understand videogames more than d&d rules

Yeah, it boggles the mind that no real 4e game exists. There were like 30 1e and 2e games.
