my main party was shadowheart, laezel (both of whom are like good parodies of bioware companions for all the reasons discussed here, they’re very catty and murderous and hornt) and mostly gale in slot 4 (who was a perfectly likable doofus though I understand why women seemingly can’t stand him).
minthara and astarion were easily the best second tier whenever I had to mix it up. they’re easy to play well and not nearly as boring as wyll or the druids. karlach is like tier 2.5 and then no one after that did much for me
i guess i got paranoid about running out of strength potions or something and didn’t long rest enough but only got a very tame sex scene with mizora
killed shadowheart at the beginning on my dork urge playthrough but revived her a few hours later and the game just kind of left her aimlessly wandering around outside the grove area saying “I can’t talk right now”
by the time i moved to act 3 it seemed to have just decided she was dead
also paid no respect to The Canon and had everyone in weird classes
astarion makes a good monk endgame if you go the evil route on his companion quest
this game literally has the most delicate scripting I’ve ever seen in an rpg, sounds like maybe they should work on this because I consistently have issues with this shit in their games!!
I’m more forgiving of these issues close to launch but it’s kind of egregious how much stuff they break as they fix other stuff, like they seem to have totally nonfunctional regression testing
Withers never told me about hirelings so I’ve been with 3 ppl for most of the time minus a brief periods where I had karlach or astarion because his dialogue trees are weird and I only talked to him once because I’ve never had to respec or anything. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa this game sometimes
I decided to stick with 3 party members because all the hirelings were combinations of things I didn’t like really besides the gith monk lady who honestly i should probably hire.
Anyway the kobolds are drinking fucking rocket fuel and whoever made this room is a sicko
hirelings are real useful even if you never take them out of camp: get yourself a bard hireling and level them so they get as many spells that last until long rest as possible.
They exist just to buff everyone with basics like Aid, Longstrider, Speak w/ Animals, etc. and to provide a free short rest via Song of Rest
why would I ever do this when I have 4,000 scrolls of all these things in my inventory. It’s actually unbelievable how thoroughly looting gives you way more potions scrolls and arrows then my entire 6 person icewind dale party could ever use
cheaper than scrolls, I hate looting things, nothing gives me pleasure like seeing a vast field of destruction that I have wrought, unlooted, and just leaving it like that
My friend was like how’d you like Halsin and I was like who? because I never met him, anyway here’s a good example of what felix is talking about because the game just unceremoniously dumped his corpse in the family guy death pose outside the druid grove when I went to the mountain pass so my quest log would update properly
it feels consistently amateurish to like, not have Lae’zel acknowledge the death of someone she killed in a fight 5 mins ago but then have weird shit like this happen all the time. It’s like if a game was full of confusing “Winski Perorate kills the entire party because you let the Grand Duke get got by Sarevok” contingency events except way more inconsequential
I really enjoyed rosymorn monestary and the underdark (despite being compelled to do them because raiding the grove is a Punishment route and Minthara refuses to backtrack unlike Halsin) so like I’m having fun heading into act 2 but also this is one of the most overrated rpgs ever by how everyone talks about it, even kotor 2 without the restored content mod feels more “reactive” and in less broken feeling ways. I do like how convos can play out in different ways but it still has the bioware problem often where the 3 choices they give you basically lead to the same place anyway, except sometimes more awkwardly because you picked a dialogue that doesn’t gel well with the response they’re giving you. this is a problem with the flow of the conversation trees though and is fixable
i am really glad they made an actual sequel to dragon age origins that doesn’t feel totally awful to play though, i loved that game and could not get more than a few hours in when i tried playing it again a few months ago so this is a good replacement
who killed halsin anyway. did he commit suicide in despair?? did we literally kill him on our way out of the grove to the live sex celebration with minthara and it happened off screen??? why is he there
[Drow] the game tries to get you to kill goblin children in the kennels to rescue halsin anyway because this game is very disinterested in portraying goblins as anything but naturally murderous freaks, so who’s the immoral one here, me or the druids??? the game adopts the same viewpoint as the racist faerunians it portrays
the only normal creatures in this entire plane are the cool inhabitants of the underdark myconoid colony
I am actually starting to wonder if your comic sans mod somehow broke all the scripting because you are hitting way more bugs with reactivity than I ever heard from anyone else
And it wouldn’t be the first time a mod full of dirty edits broke a game
