Anodyne 2 sent me back to the Saturn Dimension! (Analgesic Thread)

I wish this game was a bit less talky because when it isn’t talky, it’s pretty great.

I’m slamming this down on Inferno difficulty, and… I dunno. Maybe I’m unlucky but I feel a lot of the setpieces/“arenas” I’m hitting so far are janky and lacking in elegance. For example, the gun viking boss’s first fight has so much stuff you need to simultaneously concentrate on (moving the pong paddle without falling into the pit, slashing missiles for ammo but not the narrow missiles, blowing up the sweep lasers, anticipating where the next pong ball appears, and last but not least actually trying to shoot the boss) and doesn’t feel like it meshes together into a coherent whole where you can just do everything beautifully when you fully understand it. There’s a couple of other screens in some later areas that felt like this, too.

Anyone else still at this? I got the Iron Skin artifact and it seems kinda strong when you have at least 2 extra gems. I can fire it off in like seven rooms in a level and make it to the end fairly easily.

This game kicks ass. Probably the most game design-y game they’ve made.

What are the chances I can wait and play this on console?

Edit: “No plans but we hope”

Remember everyone Niamh is pronounced Neve

This scene was so funny! The fact that she’d been following you the whole time like the trix rabbit hoping to drink your blood…

I’ve warmed up on the talkiness in this. It just really bugged me that an early boss just had useless dialogue in the middle of a fight (which it didn’t have in the demo).

Just realised the land is called “Era” because it’s really Éire

Man, I just wrapped this up and it was a really good time overall. The story goes some places, and ends in a strange sad place that I liked. I’m not sure everything was coherent, but that kinda worked for the dreamlike nature of everything.

The credits included a shout-out to the Hydlide trilogy, so I was doomed from the start.
