animated advertising

post good animated ads itt

this was on a downloaded and burned dvd of then-current japanese ads that was on in the background once, when a bunch of us were reading/talking about comics and playing top trumps. later that day, we watched a copy of the live action man-thing movie where every ten minutes or so a voice would say “FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION”. anyway, this is the only one i remember from that disc of adverts. so much effort seems to have gone into it: character designs, a whole fictional sport. if it got popular enough to spin off into a show, they totally could have done it.

the brand is almost completely irrelevant in the 80s beer advert (also, i don’t think i’e ever seen it on sale anywhere, so i assume it didn’t last very long). someone just got paid, probably very handsomely, since it was advetising in the 80s, to just make a little fantasy short and mention a beer brand once or twice

this bill plympton ad i think ran from the mid-80s to the late 90s. it’s just good, and from a famous animator.

of course, the iconic british counterpart to jessica rabbit, as voiced by flatulence enthusiast miriam margolyes

a phenomenon that became more acknowledged in the age of dvds and streaming is that of kids picking a movie and watching it over and over. for me, that movie was inexplicably a tv-recorded copy of cannonball run 2. this ad played before the movie started, which was thematically coherent.

That Rally’s commercial was animated by Peter Chung. I think they had those in the bonus materials on the Aeon Flux dvd box set. He actually did a few of them.
