If I build a bridge of one style, and then want to change it, is there a way to just do so on the existing bridge, or do you have to destroy and rebuild it?
you have to demolish it. it takes a day to demolish or a day to build. you can only demolish or build one thing at a time i believe

I decided on something of a whim to gather up all my turnips and just see if anybody online had better prices than I did, just visiting friends at random. The first town I visited, it was already after 10:00 PM local time, so I thanked my host and moved on. The second town I visited was 9:45, and the price—well, the price was right.
I know, this is chump change compared to the way some folks play these games, but this really helps some of my stalled plans around town.
