I am here mostly for the awful games block. Animorphs last year was the high point of AGDQ2016, with the amazing Escape from Atlantis as a close second. Hopefully the TAS block will be in real hardware this year. No Tetris the Grand Master this time, but they are going to run the Card Captor Sakura Tetris, which may be cool.
So yeah, let’s talk here about the good runs as they happens and may this year spare us of endless “save/kill the animals” donation messages.
I’d take any number of save/kill messages if I could avoid hearing about so many dead/dying loved ones, because I count on games to insulate me from the reality of suffering.
I think this is the first GDQ for The Krion Conquest, which is probably only exciting to me.
coolkid is cool and is always enjoyable to watch quake
m1 is an immensely creepy dude who fetishizes young girls and i’m not sure how he keeps getting the same run in GDQ
everyone watch halo 2 legendary, cryphon is very very good at the game
peaches_ is the best
i’m looking forward to dbx running minish cap, i like him a lot and used to watch a lot of his streams when he was running cave story and link to the past(?)
100% super metroid race will be dope, runners are very good (tho i don’t know the anaconda guy)
descent 2 runner is a cool guy and it’s a cool run if you like having no clue what is even happening like i do
kind of not too into this schedule overall though, i tend to feel gdqs get a bit sterile because the runners feel like can’t play naturally in a big marathon like this, so even when it’s not Unlimited Nintendo Works it’s still kind of dry
It really depends on the runners. Some people have been doing this for years and have practiced the knack for being fun while on camera. For others this will be their first time in front of thousands of viewers AND LIVE so there’s going to be some awkwardness and forced joking before they get settled into a more natural routine. It’s not because of enforced PG rules, unless I’m missing my assumption here.
i really do like gdq as an entry point into the running communities for a lot of these games though, the amount of explanations they give can make any run nice to watch
Oh yeah, that’s what I meant by being fun. They’re having a good time doing a thing they’re passionate about, not having some routine or patter they’re following. Closest feeling would be you’re watching a group of friends gather around and play video games on the couch. It’s the reason why I enjoy PJ and Team Bad Decisions. And bonesaw, though after his SGDQ’s late night Jak & Daxter run he’s been banned from this one (not to say it was a bad run, he was heavily jetlagged and lacking a lot of sleep so his commentary got…interesting).
my god the Awful Games block looks amazing this year
I’ve seen bits and pieces of practice Batman Forever coop runs and it’ll be something alright. Timecop is a classic and if that’s NES Dragon’s Lair, that should be hilarious
knowing their luck, the whole block will explode seeing as the last time PJ and Mecharichter were in proximity, hilarious things happened at the Arcade Superplay Expo thing Twitch did
Also let me rep for the third marathon in a row that people check out that Ori run because Ori is a good game and it’s being played at a sane time of day instead of in the middle of the night for once
Multiple invocations of Owen Wilson, telling people to tweet Air Canada for their not so great service, forgetting to censor himself a couple of times and continuing all the above do so after being gently told to stop (probably because the lack of sleep ruined his short-term memory). It was more for GDQ to cover their asses than anything he did, honestly; it was an amazing run because of these antics.
The Crash dude getting banned was completely justified, OTOH. Tasteless suicide jokes all the way through, soft-locking the game because he was well over estimate, and then dropping a “I swear I’m gonna become a psychopath and murder everybody one day” while he was being shuffled off and his mic was still on.
