This is the first time in decades that steam has been involved in steam punk.

I got Bebop and Mutagen Man.

Bebop is probably the greatest toy ever made. He’s huge and solid and surprisingly poseable. All the details that were part of the original figure are recreated and enhanced with some great paint work. OG Bebop just had a solid red jacket and solid black pants so it wasn’t as noticeable that he had all these little details unless you looked at him close up.

Mutagen Man is less articulated for probably obvious reasons but he’s still pretty cool and just like the original (only he’s not watertight so you can’t actually fill him with water like you’re supposed to).

I’m sure he can be set up in a cool pose I just didn’t put any effort into it yet. I was having too much fun posing the others.

So those two complete wave 2 for me. The three I lack from wave 1 are Splinter, Baxter Stockman and the Foot Soldier but I managed to get the winning bid Sunday night on a Foot Soldier for a great price so he’ll be here by the weekend or next week probably.

It can be hard to find Foot Soldiers for under $50 because everyone seemingly wants to buy a dozen to have an army for their toy blog or whatever. I think the smarter money would be to buy just one Foot Soldier and then photoshop him as many times as you want into your pictures but that’s just me.

I think wave 1 and 2 might be getting a reissue. I know wave 1 already did back in February. The reissues have slight variations to them but honestly they’re so slight I haven’t been able to spot the difference just looking at the pictures online. I think Super7 played it safe and stuck as close to their original releases as possible and thank god for that I’d kind of hate to only be able to find a Splinter that had a different colored robe or whatever.

So I think if Splinter and Baxter Stockman get another release I might try and just wait for that rather than continue with my new daily hobby of trawling through ebay sniffing out the hottest deals. Though it is kind of intoxicating scrolling through exorbitantly marked up figures and then landing on one that’s only asking for slightly more than retail price. That’s how consumer culture gets you I guess.

I’m just going to enjoy these and not think about how the plastics they use are probably made with chemicals that are disrupting my endocrine system over time and making me sterile. Not that I’m in any danger of breeding.

Now I’m thinking about making some dioramas. I started following this guy on youtube, dripmode, who makes kick ass dioramas and custom stuff for his figures and he’s got some great Ninja Turtle stuff he’s made that’s been giving me some ideas.

Mutagen Man was one of my favorites! Those look so nice!

i thought the idea of mutagen man was cool, but in practice kind of gross? in a way that wasn’t … good

The water would leak out, or dry up and it would get all calcified and gross inside from tap water. i guess it is probably more interesting for collectors than to actually play with

He came with several bits of garbage to put inside him so you could shake him and see the stuff float around his guts. Definitely one of the grosser toys dreamed up.

maybe a version with his parts suspended in sealed body full of a thicker transparent goo would work

Wow I didn’t even think of that! There’s probably a way to fill him with clear resin. Then you could have the bits and bobs and even some strategically placed bubbles.

That would make for a good YouTube video.

The Foot Soldier rules!

I just took one picture because I haven’t posed him much yet. I only swapped his gripping hands out for a fist and an open palm. He also has a third set of hands with just the index and middle fingers standing up while the thumb is tucked. I love all the weapons he comes with (pistol, rifle, flail, that weird jaws-of-life claw on a stick thing) but the different hands make him really easy to put into cool looking ninja poses.

Not going to lie I kind of want to get a couple more just to have a little group doing a bunch of different dynamic poses.

Now I just need Splinter and Baxter Stockman. Not sure who I’ll get next. Probably Baxter Stockman. Wave 3 is out next month which has Michelangelo, Metal Head, April O’Neil and Rocksteady. I had Michelangelo and Metal Head on preorder but I went ahead just now and put the whole dang thing on preorder because screw waiting around and also it’s cheaper in the longer term.

Do it for the Mouser. I love those little guys, like I have only basic awareness of the 3DCG Nick toon but still happened to see some figs for it at work years ago and you could just buy a pack of like 5 Mousers and so of course I did.

Baxter is ordered!

The mouser is another thing people want more of, like the Foot Soldier. There are even Baxter Stockman figures on eBay that have everything but the mouser. Like who’s going to want an incomplete figure?

Maybe Super7 will release a package of just mousers at some point. Neca just put out an accessory package for their movie turtles figures would be nice if Super7 followed suit.
