I’m watching Fury Road now after seeing Furiosa 4 hours ago.
i bet imma do the same after i see furiosa
i’m bout to watch fury road and go see furiosa again tbh
I hope he gets to make a half-dozen more of these.
Can’t stop thinking about dementus. such a compelling figure. I also can’t think of any other instance where the bad guy does a “you’re just like me” speech at the end and it’s not dumb dogshit. he’s got me thinking “he’s making some good points. he’s had time to think this over.”
saw it! loved furiosas mom. thought dementus was cool whenever he moon-roached out (changed his name). didnt like when he woke back up to exposit the same points the whole fucking movie was about ! that was so annoying. this movie was more like the videogame mad max that came out ten years ago than any other mad max thing. especially with the explaining
the cinerama got bought out by siff so it was a nice theatre experience for once, got really used to AMC fuckshittery
dementus reminded me a lot of jason momoa from fast x which was great

this is a lie though, like he might say it doesnt matter but he absolutely made a point to constantly remind you where in time we were. when mad max showed up standing on the cliff for 30 seconds i audibly sighed
the more I think about it the more I think I like it. chumbucket and the starter car from the game getting a cameo was neat. also a lady in the audience audibly went EWWWWW when dementus ate the blood lizard sausage which made me crack up
I saw it at the air and space museum theater, which has been great for this sort of thing. There was a guy in his fifties sitting alone in the row in front of me just loving every moment. He was was laughing, making big gestures, just eating it up. That’s why I go to the cinema.
The game is a solid 6/10 timesink (I genuinely love how displaced and unhinged from humanity Max is depicted in that one), and it’s interesting seeing ideas that are in here and were also going to be in the aborted anime show up and be restructured into a myth-making revenge story.
i fucking adore the game theres just too much punching
watched a bit of versus the other day. the movies pretty light on plot, basically some guys fighting zombies in a forest. however the action sequences are a real standout-lots of gun fu and swordfights and blood. you can tell the director did the cutscenes for the twin snakes.
I thought the war rig driver guy looked EXACTLY like mgs1 solid snake but in leather
I watched silent night yesterday and okay it’s a little racist but I don’t think john woo means it lol. that’s why I like johnny to better anyway, he doesn’t believe in cop’s or cop behavior qualifying for heroic bloodshedding. I thought the no dialogue thing was great though, I have no idea why every review I saw complains about that, it’s one of the interesting things about the whole thing. death sentence with kevin bacon already exists if you want to watch the quiet man not quiet anymore edition. and there was a lot of interesting john woo visuals. also there’s all these reviews on letterboxd that seem just completely baffled by or think it’s insightful to be like “his kid got hit by a stray bullet then he just goes around shooting lots of stay bullets?? has no one noticed this??? he ignores his wife??” I don’t know what to make of that. everything is new to someone somewhere but how are you watching a late john woo movie and not know how the crime or action genre or movies works. Is this just every movie now, some segment of people morally scolding the movie for having storytelling events happen. leaving a review on each of the 26 zatoichi movies wondering why he keeps roaming around fighting and doesn’t just stay in a monastery and get therapy with increasing confusion. calling out the racism of the fascist punisher revenge fantasy is one thing but wondering why the action movie character does an action movie instead of staying home and talking things out with his wife, particularly in a movie where the guy is incapable of speech directed by john woo, doesn’t seem a rewarding thought avenue to go down to me.
anyway what I liked was how he trains like any normal person nowadays, watching knife fighting videos on youtube trying to copy what he sees, barely doing a single pullup, when he’s shooting leaning way back afraid of the explosion happening in his hands, terrible teacup grip, when he runs out of bullets turning and flagging the instructor. eventually he’s got the good high grip, shooting one handed and off hand only perfectly, completely jacked solely from pullups and kettlebell snatches, expert knife fighter and driver, living the dream, then he’s badly injured and almost immediately killed by the first guy he tries to punisher. the movie exists in this strange space between a what if a real guy tried doing this and a john woo john wick tone
sorry bud I’d love to help but I’m looking at my schedule here and it looks like tomorrow’s my Kill Them All (Start gang war if possible?)
Yeah I really like how his perfectly memorized knife killing routine almost completely fucked up when he had to apply it to a real person because real people fight back.
