that’s the fastest amtrak I’ve ever heard of
Is there a fansite for this franchise called the Wickipedia and if not, that’s proof the internet sucks now
i know these movies came out like 15 yrs ago but unisol regeneration still kind of shreds… a few unecessary scenes ig but lots and lots of sweaty guys grappling with each other very bodily and all the blood is in-camera. very fun + silly movie. love how it kind of makes andrei the pitpull arlovsky the pov character as he mercs jarheads until til jcvd takes over. dolph never gets 2 ask his question might watch day of reckoning tn lol i remember that being a good filmbro arthouse parody
i know day of reckoning is the one that seemed to really get a bit of a following, but regeneration is way better imo. just straight up good ass action.
yeah the baseball bat fight in that one is a contemporary classic and i like the weird suburban louisiana strip mall vibes but i do wonder to what extent the cult of that one is just leftover 2012 vulgar auteurism posting… oh look dtv action can have strobing lights!!
it definitely falls into that sort of ‘action film for people who don’t like action films’ category a bit, which is a bit antithetical to what was interesting about the vulgar auteurism conversations at the time
Day of Reckoning owns
extends incidental themes of Regeneration into a fuller text, is gleeful in its mining of genre-and-other antecedents on a shoestring budget
understands violent trauma in a lunkheaded way few films do + the action is great idk what more anyone wants
I was pretty neutral on Regeneration: I could see that it was better than other cheap-DTV-filmed-in-an-Eastern-European-Cement-Factory but it was still exactly that and large portions of it gave off the vibe of like some dude’s airsoft team deciding to film themselves.
but Day of Reckoning owns, that’s the one that really elevated the format
(i disagree and think regeneration completely rips but) good own
it’s a bummer that barely anyone got to see day of reckoning in 3d. i think that aspect was way more interesting than what it’s doing narratively - and probably more so since the format (at least shooting with real cameras) sort of died out.
deceased genre… this is so bad lol
I thought it was a little impressive that a cameraman was moving like that but then I watched other GIFs in the thread and realized it was a drone. wth
‘how did they do that?’ is maybe the least interesting way to look at movies
(and yeah, the answer is just right there anyway)
You’re right. It’s a bit like asking a magician what the trick is.
all those whip cuts are giving me motion sickness, this sucks, there’s like 60 separate shots in those 39 seconds
watched a 35mm print of knock off ln which was like pristine condition like itd been struck this year… great movie?? like if u want to see like idk action movie freneticism done right well… there u go. insane editing that deserves (probably has?) a david bordwell style breakdown… jcvd is so funny and him and rob schneider are on soooo much cocaine that they look like theyre about to fucking explode in a couple scenes. jc is a funny guy and its nice to see a movie that works with that before he becomes this sad clown in those dtv ringo lam movies tho obvs i like those too. literally two of the most obviously zooted performances ive ever seen esp. jc. but yes it is nice to watch an action comedy that is actually fucking hilarious… all the jokes land when youre watching it w/ the only 12 ppl in chicago who actually really like hark tsui and jcvd. anyeays im always saying this but it also has like insanely fucking sick action… def of a piece w/ time and tide… s2g no one was doing it quite like tsui.
