I saw this movie! Spoiler free review is I liked it! Even though it had some corny and predictable stuff in it, it had enough cool and original moments to be worthwhile. I’m glad they finally made another Alien movie about blue-collar colonists in indentured servitude to the Company, and not another space ship full of nerds (sorry Noomi Repace and Katherine Waterson). It’s the grimy, fucked up Alien world u know and love!!! This is an Alien movie!!! Even though Alien Isolation came out a decade ago and sort of did it already, it’s still cool to see all this Alien 1 production design again. No, my friends, it wasn’t a piece of shit. A few spoilerish thoughts will follow. Do not click if you don’t want to be spoiled!!!
Don't do it!!!!!

The incubation time in this movie is off the charts!!! Like 10 minutes between getting facehugged to chest explosion. I guess nobody gives a fuck anymore. It’s been 50 years since Alien 1, we know what’s gonna happen. Nobody is expecting a person to NOT hatch a xenomorph after being implanted so let’s just skip straight to it?!

There’s a bit where they overcome the whole acid blood burning thru hulls thing by turning off the gravity. Absolute plasma rifle vs Xenomorth carnage follows. Then they have to float thru this room without getting burned by this floating acid. It was so badass that the whole time I was thinking “if they had put this in Alien 4 that movie woulda turned out alright”.

I think the deepfaked Ian Holm is still pretty unnerving but maybe this works because he’s an android, idk.

They actually no joke unironically say 2 of the most iconic Alien franchise lines in this movie and they are completely unnecessary. (“Get away from her you bitch” and “I won’t lie about your chances”).

So even with this obvious fan-service stuff in there, there’s still some stuff to chew on after the movie is over. Like, the ending is kind of a downer. Yeah, Rain makes it out alive and is in cryosleep on her way to her new colony. But if you know anything about Weyland-Yutani, chances are that this colony is gonna suck just as bad. There isn’t some moment where Andy gets access to some WY database and says, “hey wait, this colony sucks! let’s go here instead”.
