A GDQ 2018 has commenced. Command? > _

So hey, this already started a few hours ago. Have been watching the Splatoon2 run since 20 minutes in, and am browsing the list to mark the runs i have to catch relive since work, live and stuff.

gotta see at least
battletoads with PJ,
Burnout paradise in 90ish minutes,
Strider,
Envirobear Relay,
Hyperlightdrifter,
Densha D:Lightning stage(!) - whatever this actually is.

What are ye guys recommending, which runs did you like, hype or hate away!

. > KILL ANIMALS

If it’s like it (or a similar game?) was in a recent GDQ, surprisingly lacking a lot of multi-track drifting.

Yeah, Densha de D is an Initial D parody fan game where you drift race with trains and it is dope. The soundtrack has a bunch of legit eurobeat bangers that would be right at home in Initial D too.

also i accidentally glanced at chat and even though they have it as sub only it’s still just a garbage spam-trough that just mocks everyone there and i feel gross and angry

i used to moderate a particularly large twitch channel.

once it gets above 1000 viewers, it’s hopeless. literally hopeless. as a moderator you can’t do anything. it’s one of the most helpless feelings even if you want to make it better.

sub only doesn’t help because shitters have money too. and in many ways find ways to be more obnoxious because of it.

just… don’t read twitch chat of any large chat, it’s not worth it and will never be worth it.

F-Zero GX was my surprise standout of the first day.

MGS speed runs are like puppet shows.

that sonic adventure 2 race was a fucking ride

metal slug 3 run was also good if you’re like me and are soothed by watching very highly skilled players playing high stakes calmly

I am very into how fierce the comp for Mario Odyssey has been

The MGS run was great, the MGS3 run was…a mess. Runner thought he had a handle on 60 fps port shenanigans and the game was having none of it. The Snake Eater singing afterward by Sumi (one of the main people running GDQ) was amazing, however!

caught a bit of the infamous run, which looked quite fluid and nice. it actually made me wanna try that game after I have cleared some of my backlog, so … 2019.

Castlevania SoTN was as broken as you’d expect, and currently trying to stay on top of everything that’s happening in the fire emblem … thing/stream.

It sort of blew my mind that they made a fourth because I forgot about the existence of Infamous 2. I only remembered Second Son because of its E3 announcement and after release it had barely any presence in the internet circles I inhabited. It didn’t help that Watch_Dogs was released in relatively the same time frame with similar aesthetic and mediocrity.

Shame they wasted neat Neon powers with that.

Super is not a part of the lineup this year, which is good, get new games, fight stagnation

killing the animals is representative of the ideal speedrun, cutting all unnecessary cruft and doing horrible things in the name of a faster time

it does not require the game, or even the act itself, it is what it represents

(also the problem with gdq is not the games so much as too many people who want to put on a show rather than relaxing and having fun with it, but that’s the price you pay for getting large)

I think something can have multiple problems

Super’s route is basically optimized now, it’s not definitive but improvement is going to be extremely minute and the run was overexposed imo, so yes, I think it’s good to sometimes temporarily retire performed runs so that at least when they are brought back they have some freshness

Also “putting on a show” and “having fun” are not mutually exclusive, it’s just that some people have no charisma or are unfunny and they don’t know it. That’s not a problem with largeness of event but the self-consciousness and personalities and social aptitude of the participants

The Dying Light run is hilarious, these people are really charming.
