Is N a stealth game? It isn’t marketed as one. It has stealth-adjacent elements:
silent lone subversive infiltrates a patrolled indoor environment
enemies must be avoided, not fought
enemy mechanics incorporate line of sight
But it lacks a broadcasting mechanic where alerted enemies can alert other enemies or raise a global alarm. Is communicatable alertness essential for stealth proper?
Rail Heist from UFO50 looks Bonanza Bros/Elevator Action-y but is pretty much a little side scrolling Metal Gear machine of chaotic emergent interactions
outside bonanza bros i am only familiar with trilby art of theft, which made playing art of theft feel like yahtzee made a puzzle version of bonanza bros
hard agree, that and gunpoint out of the games listed I actually played are top stuff. the swindle i wasnt a fan of, and neighbours from hell is just doing adventure game inventory puzzles while avoiding people and isn’t a good game but i had fun with it . oh and bonanza bros rules
I’m not sure if i would count N and Elevator Action, but cool if other people do!
Master Spy is like an almost 2d precision platformer take on the stealth genre, but it is still definitely a stealth game. It also had tremendous pixel work on its backgrounds.
I remember liking Exit on PSP when I played it in 2005 but it looks more like a rescue game than a stealth thieving game. getting old sucks my mind is playing tricks.
