gotta hand it to’em - this is the most-competent looking DD thing i’ve seen in a long time

How many competent DD things have you seen in your life?

They’re really pushing that DD license around lately.

It’s a shame the street fighter film got an ‘authentic’ fighting game but the DD film never got a beat 'em up equivalent.

it did get a fighting game, though

I got that power rangers game.

This needs a patch i would say. Seem to be dropping inputs. Had a few occassions getting stunlocked as well.

Not sure exactly what is going on with the super bar. Takes quite a while to build up and you lose when you die. I feel like there was at least one time it dropped to zero during a stage transition as well.

I’m like the super 8 stages more than i was expecting to. Seen them compared to starfox which seems lazy. Maybe it makes more sense if you go the pink ranger.

Difficulty seems to ramp up in normal. Got to some graveyard stage where you fight the boss at the start middle and end of the stage. Pretty sure I’m about to eat one of the limited continues as the 3rd go on the boss is a fussily small floating hitbox shooting lasers across the screen. Sure it works better in multiplayer.

That seems like a fair bit of criticism but i am enjoying it. Like a feature slimmed version of the turtles one but with more gameplay variation

no online multiplayer ruined it for me.

Power Rangers baffles me - which feels appropriately 90s belt scroller.

I’d mentioned you lose the Super Bar when you die. You also lose it if you fall into a pit. THe very first boss has a move with invincibilty frames through the entire super as well.

There is a scoring and ranking system but there is no way to gain extra lives or credits.

There are a couple of Alien Storm/T2 Arcade game levels where you moving a gun cursor around - shooting enemies that are flying due to balloons. Each balloon takes 5 hits to burst and it’s 1- points per balloon but shooting the enemy directly takes 2 hits and is worth 100 points.

Falling into a pit in the Zord levels is an insta-death. The pink rangers zord flies so bypasses all of that - but then how does co-op work?

The megazord levels don’t have a health bar so are unloseable. I played the Dragonzord fight on a flight - it’s main attack is relentlessly undogable, but if you fail enough times he will just jump in front of you and let you punch him. This takes about 5 minutes per cycle - so a 20 minute unloseable fight.

THe last boss does the Zelda reflecting projectiles and the last phase requires you to use the rising attack - the one that has no useage beyond the tutorial until the end of the game.

I kind of love it. Instead of being ‘the good 90s Power Rangers game that never happened’ it’s the ‘Arcade Power Rangers game that didn’t live up to the Attract sequence’.

And 90% of the voice lines are each Ranger asking for help from the rest of the team - great 90’s single player shaming

that all sounds like it’s designed by people who vaguely remember playing arcade games, but have never done so as adults.

there are actually four good power rangers games from the 90s, though! everyone wrote them off at the time, presumably because adults in the 90s had performatively hate any kids media (see also: pokemon) and it was those adults writing all the magazine reviews.

but mighty morphin power rangers (snes) is secretly a slightly simplified ninja warriors game. mighty morphin power rangers: fighting edition is the prototype for gundam wing: endless duel, the best fighting game on snes, and the two game gear power rangers games are also pretty great fighting games that have beautiful sprites

MD/Gen Movie plays really, really well

please ignore that it only has two enemies and ends without you actually fighting Ivan Ooze

i haven’t played snes the movie lol
