@notbov Oh actually no, Wikipedia says
he now owns the rights to Ninja Baseball Bat Man 's non-video game products, while Irem Japan owns the rights to its video game content.
so maybe they’d be in the clear?

well I’m sure we’ll get a port of it around the same time as their Hook feat. Pockets arcade game
Kyros
By Alpha Denshi aka ADK. Zombies Ate My Neighbors designer Mike Ebert has said this game was an inspiration. Ported to late '80s European PCs (Amstrad, ST, C64, Spectrum) as “Desolator.”

Final Fight producer Yoshiki Okamoto had Double Dragon II: The Revenge in mind, specifically, when coming up with FF’s concept (Final Fight (video game) - Wikipedia). Which is funny because The Revenge was a weird remake of the first Double Dragon, in fact it started out as an upgrade kit, but typical of Technos’ sort of technical inefficiency, bloated up to needing a board with a larger ROM size (Double Dragon II: The Revenge - Wikipedia).
Which naturally leads us to the 2013 Korean-made Xbox Live Arcade sort of follow-up to Revenge: Double Dragon II: Wander of the Dragons - List of video games notable for negative reception - Wikipedia :
Oh hey I forgot this thread is “2D Beat 'em Ups,” hm. Well I did talk about 2D beat em ups first… : P Anyway, do we really need a separate thread for 3D ones? = P
kamaitachi my beloved
if you like Ninja Warriors Again, it’s interesting to play its spiritual predecessor, Natsume’s first Mighty Morphin Power Rangers game on SNES. It’s much more restrictive in terms of play freedom, and honestly a pretty middling game, but you can see the blueprint. It’s more NWA than the original Taito NW arcade game at least.
this game in development, last standing, looks kind of like a single plane musou?
i’ve never even heard of that ugly korean double dragon before!
Bah my grumpy tired old eyes are not compatible with these modern retro wanna-bes and their stupid flashing/shaking FX. ; P Bah I say! ; D
(Not that plenty of old games didn’t have those; for instance I only just about an hour ago realized that Warrior Blade has severe character flash FX on hit and casting, gar.)
((But it’s a stupid thing for modern games to ape without an option to disable it–they should know better!!! Rargh rargh I say shakes cane))
It’s the original devs. Tengo Project’s whole deal is remaking their own titles from the 90s.
Then they should dEFINITELY know better! ; D
What the hell, this game is so good what how did I not know about it before??
I love all the incidental humor of what the enemies are doing before you walk in or how they come in on screen. My favorites are:
There’s so many more little moments like that and it’s so dang charming what the hell
The developer, Winkysoft, also did a bunch of console games, but they seem to be of variable quality as far as I can tell just from videos.
The prequel to Guardians, Denjin Makai, which I posted a video for above in that same post, had a SFC port called Ghost Chaser Densei:
Winkysoft also did Mazinger-Z, a side-scrolling beat-em-up SFC thing
which Wikipedia – Mazinger Z (video game) - Wikipedia --bizarrely calls a vertical shooter, even as they link to the Mobygames page showing the beat-em-up screenshots etc. : P
And Winkysoft did a PS2 JP-only game in 2003 simply called Transformers which makes it rather hard to look up, but it’s a 3D beat em up and we don’t have to talk about that I guess
oh, i guess that’s a different game to the western ps2 game also just called transformers, which iirc was developed by an australian studio.
i didn’t know about the mazinger beat em up, so i assume that like me, whoever wrote the wiki page was thinking of the mazinger z arcade game, which is a vertical stg. (and it’s available from arcade archives, but with a higher price than usual because of the license)
ghost chaser densei is far from arcade perfect, but it is one of the best beat em ups on snes.
guardians might actually be the best arcade beat em up, and at the time of its release might have been the best beat em up of all? i think only modern games like streets of rage 4 and ninja saviours beat it.
YES!!!
Okay as long as the three enemy types have more than 2 color palettes and Bubbles is an unlockable combo fiend I’m in
that looks… stiff?
Also The Phantom? What a weird thing to pull out. Good on them I guess.
it’ll sell like crazy in new guinea!
