I am really liking the new Animal Collective record that came out today, Time Skiffs. It has the softest, most melancholic and lush sound I think they’ve ever had on a record. The instruments they bring to this are mostly acoustic, but you still have the electronic sampling work that they usually rely on. It evokes colors like frayed blue, things like mist, and clear water. I really like it.
Highlights for me are the Royal and Desire, Dragon Slayer, Cherokee, and Walker. Prestor John was a single I loved a lot, but it turns out to be one of the least interesting tracks on the record I think.
I also got but haven’t listened to the new Boris record (that got put out by Sacred Bones, wtf!!) called W.
