10,000 Bulletins: No One Can Stop the Presses! (Part 1)

This Talking Heads song turning into a low-key meme about AAA game developers is my favorite thing. If they ever make a movie about the rise and fall of a game studio, run it over the end credits

Is this a thing? This has not penetrated my sphere or anyone I know

Studio work is way more insulated than indie work; twitter penetration is only at normie levels

Full voice acting seems really awkwardly welded onto the visual presentation style borrowed from the original. Did the remakes do that too?

It might not be a meme beyond this one barely-viral tweet but if it’s not we should make it one is what I’m saying

It seems that Cyberpunk 2077 itself has some references to Talking Heads songs in it which is probably why somebody made the connection

Correction, the connection was made because this person was already obsessed with this song

This one seems to have a much higher kingdom hearts quotient

Yeah I had no awareness of any meme, it’s just my favorite song

The song fits Valve even better:

gosh the more cartoony character art style for Alyx might have been good for characters like Russel but it really destroyed the specific uncanny composite effect of the Half-Life 2 G-Man model

I guess he still looks like a composite but it’s more like a GAN ouptut sourced from Reagan and game show hosts. The most middle-point possible.

b-but the subsurface scattering and wrinkle simulation took a lot of work to implement…

orthogonal to our goals of realistically unrealistic human shells and their waxy sheen!

is it some kind of joke that the story about developers chaffing at sony only being interested in the same game over and over exists because one studio wanted more “creative control” over their chosen project of remaking the last of us

I think Jason, as virtually the only outlet for leaks that can create investigative reports, is kind of locked into this frame of studio mismanagement. Like, the new info here is about Sony first-party strategy and how tightly franchise-oriented they’re playing things, to the extent of giving up new franchises owned by new studios (Bend Studio is way bigger than a 30-person visual support team!) in favor of an Activision-style studio support system for a single IP.

Good observation

Semi-relatedly, I finally got around to unsubscribing from the NYT last month after it crystallized in my mind that the problem with them is that they as a rule (and the rule has gotten stronger over the last decade) cram everything they report into one of ~10 predetermined frames, so basically after a point I can’t develop my thinking reading them further. But it’s frustrating because they have so many contacts and reporting resources that nobody else has, just like the case you’re talking about

Yeah I was joking to a friend that it just is “Nomura style combat” and that’s not even really a joke. It seems to be what dude and/or modern Square like.

TWEWY is officially Kingdom Hearts canon though, so it makes sense.

I’m a Nomuraverse mark. This is my badge of shame, my scarlet letter, whatever you wanna call it.
