No Orcs (ugh fine…‘Orruks’)=No Sale
This looks nice.
Really pays to keep up with those Random Game Names it seems
This looks great just shocked Mass Effect talking Camera has become a default for games.
turns out it’s an order of magnitude more work to break film conventions for dialogue like shot->reverse shot->shot! This keeps the space requirements for dialogue nice and tight and the focus on the acting; adding more ambitious camera movement requires a lot more knowledge of the space and can’t easily be replicated across other content.
General workflow is: cinematographer builds library of dialogue animations and camera moves, lighting artist builds a library of schemes to point lights at faces, designer plugs them in to different conversations as needed, making adjustments for time & space. If you want better you need something linear like a movie or an Uncharted game and you need to be able to delay setting these up until much later.
Not to say it’s not terrible and boring; it’s a problem everyone walked into by driving to fidelity and nobody knows how to solve in a cost-effective manner. bring back text boxes
I like second person walls of text even more. You don’t really need to animate then, either.
god the vn bits in that game are revolting
It’s a fine line, isn’t it? Kaim is blank or mutable enough that they’re written as a universal you but it really means they have no purchase. They read like a lot of modern poetry to me. I picture a suburban life lit in cold blue lighting and a focus on:
the fruit basket, slowly rotting
the rain on the windowpanes, slowly mouldering
the sweater, slowly pulling picking unraveling
blugh
yeah, that perfect combination of mawkishly sentimental, ineptly cliche-ridden attempts at evocative atmospherics and fetishistic old man creepiness
gross
Can ‘life as an immortal’ stories escape the trappings of gothic romance and beauty as a frail porcelain (feminine) object?
I ask this from intense self-interest, mind
I was thinking of Destiny’s between-expansion cheap quest writing for the record
Edit: lol yes, in Destiny
Finally someone said it.
I didn’t forget! At least, I remember now that you reminded me.
I’ll be back on Destiny as soon as I finish my hyperbolic time chamber but until then I eagerly await the meetup. Destiny 1 really felt like Bungie getting back on their narrative game and back to Marathon.
It’s been annoying this season because they got more VO and cutscenes in than usual and started referring to narrative “show runners,” etc. Everyone is happy but me.
you are the One Who Is Correct!
Getting my fix by squinting at Apex Legends cosmetics to glean the Brechtian design of the Titanfall universe
