10,000 Bulletins: No One Can Stop the Presses! (Part 1)

I laughed a lot when I saw YIIK had patched in content warnings and the ability to disable scenes that depict or discuss sensitive content. That seemed like some real cynical shit to me, that seemed like trying to close the barn door after you shipped one of the worst games ever made, that seemed like a real missed opportunity, like if you click YES the game should uninstall, pretty sure that’s what a real deal hacky pomo gamedev woulda done, fucking hell.

Anyway you all know how I roll. You all know what I clicked:

Sadly the screen following this did not say “Try NOT to cum in 5 minutes!” It just gave me this:

Which I’m certain is in all versions of the game, softcore or not.

Anyway. Anyway.

Words to live by.

really curious about the patched in “silent protagonist” mode for YIIK that reportedly strips out all the main character’s lines but leaves the rest of the game completely unchanged. the only game out there truly wrestling with the formal gauntlet laid down by The Quiet Man

Interested to see how this new wave of upcoming high budget Chinese-developed action games will be received

so far all the most interesting chinese games have been crushed by the party afaik

The most flabbergasting thing about actually playing Quiet Man after hearing about it only by distant rumor is that it is not that your protagonist is silent, he is deaf, and the game plays whole traditional story cutscenes with all the characters flapping their mouths silently with no words coming out. Like five to ten full minutes, over and over, of 3d modeled people silently moving their mouths around

It’s the bravest videogame. Commit to the bit.

the thing that delighted me most is that your character seems to have no problems understanding people in the cutscenes - he’s still gesturing and lipreading and such - so it’s not even the case of seeing things from his perspective, it’s just like the vgame adaptation of half-watching a movie over someone’s shoulder on a long flight

One of the planners for SMT1 comments about Atlus working on Friday the 13th for the NES and being just a tester at that time. In the comments, Tsukasa Masuko mentions Kubota, who I assume is referring to Hideyuki Kubota (a planner/game designer/etc. at Atlus), contributing a song to Dungeon Explorer, and then Ito comments that he thinks Kubota also contributed the Fountain of Healing song to Megami Tensei 2.

Noooooo I don’t want to re-up with Apple Arcade just to play a Castlevania (but I probably will).
