This is my favorite ambiguous, important-sounding job title. If you add “systems” in the middle, you can give it that computer age feel. Perfect job for a movie protagonist when you need to explain how they can afford an apartment but you don’t want them to have a job that seems as fun as architect but instead something that sounds a bit more soul crushing.

I think a lot of my bias is that I’m broken enough to like my Steam controller and that I’ve had plenty of experience with running stuff in my library through Proton and seeing how well things work (when they work)

edit: actually I’m bugged by the idea that there’s no stand unless they want me to shove it in the carrying case and hope for the best

Going a bit off-track about basic professional epiphanies it’s only in recent times that I’ve realized just how essential that can be, though. As someone living in a country where we have no single head of state but endlessly amused by the fact we call one of our government members “president” just so foreign presidents will have someone they deign talk to, I should’ve understood earlier how powerful a tool an ambiguous, important-sounding job title can be. People who wouldn’t give me the time of day as a developer will feel they just have to accept what I say if I’m [fancy title here]. It’s some kind of weird word magic.
It reminds me of the time I’ve been an “expert” in university exams, a task that consisted of staying silent and looking vaguely unimpressed by whatever examinees would say. I’ve been told i was pretty good at terrorizing people that way but really, I was just the web guy.

Job titles thread. I got this really important sounding job title at work years ago then they immediately promoted someone else to do that actual task but wanted me to keep the title. I even offered to give up the title because I don’t really need to be important sounding. WTF even is a job title?

Yeah, I should probably change “ERP and PLM Administrator/Manager” on my resume to “Business Systems Specialist” or some shit because it’d pretty much be the same thing and sound a lot more impressive.
