10,000 Bulletins: No One Can Stop the Presses! (Part 1)

the UI is much better, the performance tuning should be negligible (but I agree often isn’t in practice, even though it’s really just down to how they’ve implemented QoS on top of the hardware encoder), but moonlight isn’t even a platform keep in mind, it’s just a good open source toolkit on top of Nvidia’s APIs

I never liked Big Picture Mode and I’m trying to figure out if the new Apple TV can do 120hz Nvidia streaming, don’t pay me any mind lol

I mostly just wanna know if it’s gonna come with a fixed function AV1 encoder dongle that’s also a dedicated transmitter

Valve can make whatever dumb nonsense they want

just sell me another receiver for my Steamcon, I’m begging you

How can Valve make a good UI when the steam app doesn’t even have fixed width and the search bar bugs out every time?

stop this

The thing is probably using some highly customized fork of SteamOS/Ubuntu, which means the thing is booting straight into Big Picture Mode and not letting you see any of the guts unless you hold a gun to it (IIRC, Valve let’s you go to a very stripped down desktop in SteamOS though I haven’t looked at it in years) and BPM is actually a workable, usable UI (including a sane soft keyboard)

This is just the culmination of all the dumb Linux and hardware bullshit they’ve been doing for years except they decided to enter the niche marketplace of handheld PCs, which, sure, more power to you Gaben you crazy knife collecting bastard

I’ll be more interested if they let you replace SteamOS with literally anything else (Windows for the multiplayer games that hold a gun to the kernel as a form of anticheat or alternate gaming-focused Linux distros for wider emulator and sourceport access)

Also I guess it was already dead but now is the best time to pour one out for the Smach Z

Also also I really hope they don’t completely lock the OS/Steam down

One of the nagging peculiarities of Valve’s work on Proton is that they still don’t have an answer for stuff that requires Windows Media Framework (basically whenever a game calls for a video file to play as a cutscene and it’s not a Bink) and the main way I’ve gotten around it is using the Glorious Eggrolls fork of Proton (as an example, River City Girls opens with multiple video files for logos and the opening and it flat out refuses to boot on any Valve Proton blob but works fine with Proton-GE)

This sounds weird when you consider that Proton is literally Wine (I mean literally, Steam outright makes a new Wine prefix for every game) but here we are

You can convert your UE4 projects to UE5! Hell yes, I know what I’ll be tinkering with the next few days. UE5 Early Access 5.0.0 is on the Epic launcher right now and about a 12GB download.

Some days I just love these unethical mega corporations giving me cool free stuff to play with

RUMOR MILL:

My man is wearing a t shirt with a scene from Jodorowsky’s Holy Mountain wherein an alchemist forces a thief to defecate into a container, burns up said turd and, after having the poor man inhale the fumes, turns into a nugget of gold.

What could Kojima be telling us through this language of t shirt symbolism? Is he the alchemist? His devoted fanbase the poor thief? The young women on the alchemist’s side a poignant critique on his oyaji casting choices? And the that pile of human manure, is it his hotly anticipated and lukewarmly received opus of overwrought opulence, DEATH STRANDING?

Stay tuned as we comb over every pixel and determine what exactly is happening on his screen by running a set of ML algorithms across his expertly chosen piece of non-reflective eyewear!

Hideo Kojima is the thief huffing his own fumes.
