Cindy Lee was new to me. I’ve been listening to the rest of the album and it’s good.
video kind of sucks where the they live one was fun but i like the song and i’m excited for the album based on the lead singles
I’ve never really vibed with speedy ortiz compared to a lot of their contemporary girl guitar groups and it’s weird because whenever Sadie Dupuis is interviewed she says a lot of stuff that I’m even more outwardly agreeable to than I’d expect, idk if it’s because they came out of the Northampton scene or what, I’ve had a weird relationship with some of those people
their vocal mixing is also really weird considering how much she obviously likes her lyrics, it’s as if she never liked her voice as much
oh idk i like them a lot more than eg the boygeniuses jointly or severally but it’s a bit reductive to compare them all, no?
who can relate lol
i hadn’t thought about no below in a decade but its inclusion in the life is strange prequel bowled me over right before the singles started coincidentally
is there even “boy guitar” music of note these days?? running down the list in my head most bands are coed as you’d expect
I had never heard of boygenius before but they’ve been mentioned like five times this past week. Looked em up and it turns out Lucy is from Richmond! See, what’d I tell ya? It’s a decent city.
believe you me i know the plight of the good city in a bad jurisdiction ![]()
lol nope
(though i don’t like any of these girl indie acts either)
I liked the first wave of these acts (angel olsen, courtney barnett, Sharon van Etten) a lot better basically
the only phoebe bridgers record I really like is the one she did with Conor Oberst which is probably damning enough
I’m also insanely judgmental of specifically young millennials’ pop emotionality in a way I still don’t understand very well, like lyrically this stuff is light years more boring to me than eg au revoir simone or Broadcast
what do you mean by weird vocal mixing? sadie’s vox have always been mixed pretty front and center in my memory, that was like one of the characteristic things about their sound to me when i was listening to them a lot around the time foil deer came out. the guitars are loud and there’s lots of distortion but sadie’s voice is never not like very clear in the mix unless she’s using an effect or something, i’m looking through tracks and i can’t find a counterexample really
ah sorry man you got genre and gender mixed up it’s the french canadians’ fault don’t sweat it
honestly might be an auditory issue for me
