Why are all glasses so boring?

I need new glasses really bad but my cayce pollard branding aversion makes finding frames at the place near me impossible and my prescription is so fucked I don’t trust the internet.

What do you mean by Cayce Pollard branding aversion?

The protagonist of the novel Pattern Recognition has an allergic like reaction to logos and branding so she ends up favoring military surplus. I think Mr. T does something similar in the fashion show sequence of Be Somebody or Be Somebody’s Fool.

I had to settle with some glasses with Ray Ban logos on the arms last time I went. And they were shocked i didn’t want the logo laser etched on the actual lenses.

Also had to fight to not get them to add some sort of blue light reduction bullshit. I color grade stuff at work and want to see what I’m supposed to see.

A number of years ago, after also considering buying these exact frames for the exact reason, but not doing it because they’re like a thousand fucking dollars (they also make another very nice looking super thick variant for even more money), I settled on different pair from “Vint & York”.

I bent them in a little in the middle along the nose bridge, as I do with all of my glasses, when i first got them. I liked them and wore them every day for a year or two. Until, one day, when I was placing them onto my face, they simply cracked right perfectly in half at that very same nose bridge.

I hopefully complained to their email address, and they basically told me to kick rocks and get lost.

I still have the broken corpse in hopes of maybe I guess one day trying to like epoxy? them back together?

if it’s screen printed on the side you can just use nail polish remover I do it for all my shades

or I wrap kitchy tape around the arm if the glasses are super cheap, like the free pairs of sunglasses I get every year thrown from the pride parade

I’ve totally done the nail polish trick in the past (and I couldn’t remember what I used so thank you), but last time around it was like an embossed element.

I totally made it through childhood scratching off cigarette brand logos from freebie sunglasses. In retrospect I should have kept them as was

Oh, yeah, I hate those giant logos on the sides of glasses. I assume it’s because it’s the only way to show off whose brand you paid for because so many of their glasses look so similar.

so I’m on the hunt for new glasses and I think basically what I want are readers, like a little half moon shape. unsurprisingly hard to find nice ones, but I like these below, so I’m thinking about rolling the dice and just turning them into a cunty little pair of sunglasses if they turn out to be impractical for everyday use

like cmon… they’re so cute… they even look like they’re judging you

v open to any other suggestions/recommendations for this type of thing

have you considered those lenses that darken in UV light so they turn into sunglasses when you’re outside?

oh I’ve considered all kinds of transitions, but I prefer clip ons. I’ve had them for my last 3 (i think?) pairs of specs, coolest ones were probably for these octagon frames I got so I could be like Jeremy Irons in Die Hard 3. they’re a little heavy to be really comfortable though

How easy are clipons to use? No damage to the lenses over the time?

not in my experience, they don’t actually sit right on the lenses but just in front of them.

wow, can you drop the link to these? i don’t mind the weight.

afaik they aren’t made anymore! they were an oliver peoples x assouline collab thing from ~2019, you might be able to find them on ebay or something. these also might get you there:

thanks. couldn’t find any old stock on ebay but i found the aliexpress dupe. i wonder how bad they could be. tbh, i have liked acetate clones before, but i’ve never tried titanium ones.

if they’re really titanium i’m skeptical of the quality of the plating on the gold/silver/black finishes

most skeptical that they’re really titanium but color 2 looks the part
