unless we count fury road, i don’t think i’ve watched a road movie since my teenage years

back then, my favourites were beavis and butthead do america and jay and silent bob strike back. but bear in mind i was a teenage boy and it was the turn of the century

Surprised no one’s going to bat for Bing Crosby movies.

I know I would! That’s why I recommended it!

Man I can’t believe I didn’t think of A Goofy Movie, that is a fucking ace film.

It’s one of my all-time faves but I can’t see how this is a road movie exactly. It’s a ‘boat’ movie.

best boat movies:

Jaws
Captain Ron
uhh

a road movie is more about a long journey with numerous incidents along the way, rather than an actual road. the odyssey is a road myth

Oh, Little Miss Sunshine! I liked that movie a lot

I can’t say I agree. if that were the case then probably 90% of movies could qualify as “road movies.” I think to be considered a true road movie you need to have at least one actual road down which characters travel.

I’d say a road trip movie is any film focused on a single group traveling via vehicle to a distant location, regularly put into close proximity so as to have like at least a third of the movie’s interaction take place without the option to leave.

Maybe there’s a better reason for dissing Life Aquatic as a road movie (haven’t seen it in a while)but the fact that here the road is a sea and not sturdy man made asphalt doesn’t seem like one?

I mean Into the Wild takes place in nature but it’s still a road movie right?

Wait we all disagree
Is “Is this a road movie” the movie equivalent of “Is this an RPG”?

The ur road movie, Road to Singapore takes place on a boat.

there’s definitely some element of road movie to most of the terminator films

oddly enough least of all in salvation, which is vaguely the terminator + mad max

I’ve always associated road movies with (ultimately) feel good stories. I find it so odd that most of you seem to be recommending apocalyptic, depressing stories…

Please, elaborate I mean post the title please?

that’s two-lane blacktop, it is the best
