What games would you have someone play as their first games ever?

Roger Ebert would have changed his tune as soon as Annapurna made its name. He’d be writing pages and pages of exuberant praise for Maquette or some shit like that. There just weren’t enough middlebrow games for him back in the day.

I got pinged for this and I thought an update would be nice:

Partner progressed through D3, D4, and MHW, but they did not get far into Elden Ring. The shielding mechanic did not make sense to them, and the progressed past beginner dungeon, and it was very, very hard to do anything w/o knowing that. Kind of trying to figure out how they MHWilded 9* monsters with me. Dual Blade DPSing and knowing when to dodgeroll was enough?

They’re currently FF14ing more than I’ve ever gamed on anything else in my life, though.

Probably Ooo unless they hate puzzles, then I dunno. Maybe Celeste, making sure they know about the accessibility options if they really want to get through it. Do you think someone who has never played a video game would feel like they’re missing out on something this way? I think no but hard to say. My parents plays video games and they’re 70, so the idea of someone who doesn’t and hasn’t already made a choice not to is weird to consider.
