Walking on EGG(Console)Shells

Nope, global Switch eShop releases of old PC games from Japan, with no additional localization at all, which doesn’t matter for some of them, but matters a lot for others.

Great. If I get a Switch 2 I’ll get Thexder and Silpheed. I had those as a kid and loved them.

Whoa! never heard of this

This game is a puzzle game released in 1987 in Japan. The player teaches a robot, equipped with artificial intelligence, to remember action patterns and disarm bombs. The game has two main objectives: the first is the primary goal of finding the time bomb and transporting it to the bomb disposal unit within the time limit; the second is to train and educate the robot, giving it learning abilities, making it smarter, and handling the puzzles effectively. This training and development of the robot is one of the main attractions of the game.

Thexder notably also has a DOS port that was released in North America by Sierra On Line.

Silpheed too!

i remember getting really into a demo of ‘Thexder 95’ or smth when i was a kid. the game logic was definitely still running at its original framerate/resolution despite all the fancy textures, so everything looked like some kind of rigid stop-motion

Oh yeah, that’s the windows 95 version, which is some weird stuff.

Not my screenshot, but apparently it might run OK in Windows still, from what I saw:

T95-201

Either way, that is windows 95 as fuck, wow.

There’s also a Famicom Thexder as well, with the port done by early Square.
