They are really meaningfully considered in production order, I think. They were cooking, iterating in that 90’s software way where everything is too slow now to do.
the english translation is… let’s say poor. it’s not without charm, but it loses an incredible amount of what’s in the original. one of our (former?) posters made a lot of notes:
I popped in Mario 3 and couldn’t stop thinking about this video
HAMLET NOOOOO
My favourite of the bunch is Soul Blazer by far, but Illusion of Gaia’s pacing is fascinating. The way it deals with time passing in such a concrete but narratively detached way, zooming in and out on events, the whole raft sequence, it’s incredible. There is I suppose something Xenogears CD 2 about it, but I view that as a positive.
Zaxxon for the 32X should have been called Zaxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxon.
same with Darxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxide
I read a lot of Google-translated Impress Game Watch articles back in the heady 2000s import days, and had a lingering impression–oh ho–that most of their articles were written as “first impression” type articles, a breezy format allowing them to skip over things they don’t want throwing off their chosen spin on a game–and checking back now on https://game.watch.impress.co.jp/ I’m media-manipulatedly nostalgically heartened to see the top-line article still being an “impressions” article–but I only just now realized that well yeah, it’s right in the name of the site. ; D
I’d always thought “Impress” was just meant as a posh-sounding brand name. ; )
My uncle playing tf2 for the first time, and upon seeing headshots were a thing assumed all hit locations were tracked and decided he wanted to play as scout. Not long after he gave up im disappointment that he coud not run around kneecapping everyone
your uncle would love tarkov
“dilly dally, shilly shally”
Fuuuuuuck I’d wear that, I love Darius
A while back, I got a Darius jacket but the arms were coated in pleather and that shit started flaking a year after, heartbreaking
On one episode of Dan Harmon’s podcast Pokemon Go came up as a topic. The cohost Jeff B Davis mentioned that he booted up the game, but then found it unplayable because he couldn’t wear a suit. He refused to ever be seen, including in a video game, without wearing a suit. After that I added how long it takes to get a suit to the criteria I judge a game’s dressup options by.
Gave up trying to find a romhack or cheat code that would allow me to loop just the first stage of NES Donkey Kong. I guess the other two stages are okay. ]_]
i tried to get someone to play dk 94 and he only played the first two or so levels and was like IT’S JUST DONKEY KONG WITH MORE MOVES, THIS IS BORING and i kept telling him there was more game after those levels but he refused to believe me
In my desperation I’d been hoping maybe there was an option to play '94 in straight DK mode but I could find no hint of such a thing so I gather, no there almost certainly is not.
This is so fucking good.
