duelin firemen is legitimately one of the most fucking wild things i’ve accidentally come across thanks to boredoms (though they’re cowards for not using acid police instead.) game had to get canceled or midwest weirdos would’ve gotten too powerful

I’ve been recreating it in FL Studio as a way of learning/getting used to using Fruity LSD

It was nerve-wracking trying to get it to work until I realized it’s actually in 6/8

it’s in half-time 12/8, but can be more simply expressed as swung 4/4, which fl studio has lots of easy options for

right around the time of pokemon gold/silver being released in japan i had discovered an emulator called no$gb that would only play games in black and white (but not actual black and white, i remember it being sort of a yellowish hue), and you could only play for like, 10 or 15 minutes. i remember deleting the rom before 24 hours were up and then redownloading it, before realizing there’s no way anybody would know, so fuck it. anyway, the first game i emulated was pokemon gold/silver and i remember trying to get as far as i could before the time was up. fucking no cash, man. i had no cash for you, no$!

anyway, a little while later, i found a good gameboy emulator and emulated pokemon silver using a partial fan translation (that in hindsight was completely wrong) that was mostly in gibberish, and when i heard this song on the in-game radio, i was like, “woah, this rules”. at the time, the end of the connector on my PC speakers broke off inside of the port on my PC, so I’d have to hold the connector in sometimes to make the connection to still get sound, and i remember holding that connector in with the speakers pumped up with this jam puking out of it. halcyon days.

Apparently, this guy composed the music for the Japanese version of FantaVision (I think he also did the music for Ape Escapes?)! A lot of it is very like, lounge-y.

Here’s music from the North American version, which is by Ashif Hakik and The Digital Bitphonic Orchestra, respectively, if Moby Games is to be believed.

He (Terada) also did the music for some obscure PC FMV game about an Island space resort:

The big Sonic thread in the axe got me listening to the Sonic Adventure soundtrack for the first time in over a decade, and when I got to the Chao Garden music I had a bit of a moment.

This sounds exactly like the NiGHTS Into Dreams soundtrack in a way that no other music in the game does. It’s uncanny, almost like a hyperactive remix of the Spring Valley song:

I checked, and the composer is the same, Fumie Kumatani. This seems to be a clear homage (or a cut song from NiGHTS), and I’m guessing it’s because the Chao Garden was a straight evolution of the nightopian “a-life” system in NiGHTS.

Hyperion Orbit is a dope track for when you’re saving cartoon bunnies in space (Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime).
