Oh yeah, I had totally forgotten that! He seems like kind a wild figure from what I’ve heard of him now that I think of it—this 2006 interview with him about Gun Frontier is one of my fav game dev interviews, I think from time to time of the desperate atmosphere of him sitting in the office in his underwear doing its waterfall set piece with the two development machines overheating
From what he says in those interviews I think his work on Darius II was part of what convinced management at Taito to pursue Gun Frontier

finally, after like 2 years, i’ve managed to scrape together enough time to mix and render these:

i hope u like them.
shout-outs khinsider.
excellent curations!!!
Very tempted to do one of these
hey - awesome to see more people doing stuff inspired by those mixes! i honestly thought they’d catch on more than they did back in the day but maybe i’m too much of a niche weirdo. btw if you post about these somewhere lmk so i can reblog them or retweet or whatever
and yes @captainlove feel free to do your own. tho it’s good to be conscious of potential overlap in tracks with the other mixes out there. i’m also planning on doing another one eventually, but i have to scrape together enough tracks for that and i’m not in a hurry rn tbh.
Didn’t know about these mixes, suddenly have tons of cool stuff to listen to = DDD
I think of this as one component of like, “the sound of the 6th gen”…along with looseish “tsss”-type hi hats on the upbeats counterposed with the snare.
Of course, artists like Fatboy Slim or Propellerheads or the like were very popular at the time and so on.
i think this is the CD audio included in the FM Towns version of the game Royal Blood (known as Gemfire in the US on the SNES), but not entirely clear
