The SNES’ muffled samples really help with the quiet, dreary atmosphere of some of Ultima VI’s music.
important to watch the whole video
well I’ve been playing a lot of guilty gear xx ac+r lately, so let’s dump some music
millia always has the best songs. when I first played guilty gear X many many years ago, I started out maining millia, because her theme rules. it’s called WRITHE IN PAIN. very on brand
she has a song for when she fights eddie. they had sex or killed each other or something like that, idk
millia and eddie/zato are in the ASSASSINS GUILD. when two of the assassins fight each other, and those two aren’t specifically millia and zato, this track plays:
ino is a playable character in the game, but there’s also a special final boss version of her that is stupid. boss ino’s theme, however, is not stupid. it’s called THE MIDNIGHT CARNIVAL, which is such a good name that they also just used it as the subtitle for Guilty Gear XX
ky goodguy is the most boring motherfucker in this game, he’s so boring that he’s the only main character that ain’t even actually the main character. but his song is called HOLY ORDERS (BE JUST OR BE DEAD) and it fuckin slaps
they eventually figured out ky was stupid and made another ky, only now he’s a robot. he’s pretty fun! his song is called HOLY ORDERS? and it’s literally a metal machine music version of ky’s theme, it’s amazing. also people often call robo ky robert kyle and for some reason I just can’t fucking get over that
They outdid themselves in the Forbidden West OST, it’s oozing with atmosphere. This track especially is spectacular:
Still love this game’s butt-rock soundtrack.
These ones are a bit different, where they went with sort of a techno angle:
i was listening to the ost from this game for a new episode of pulse wave and i was like “WHY THE FU CK DO I RECOGNIZE THIS SONG SO WELL”
and it’s because of this post, plus the one in the video game music nomination thread, and then i downloaded it to put it in a co-op button episode, which i haven’t done yet
Lake Quack is legit my favorite video game song. Such a banger.
Roller girl vibes
Person who’s only listened to Rollergirl: getting Rollergirl vibes from this…
when my therapist taught me how to go to my happy place it was just an infinite field of tall grass brightly lit under a blue sunless cloudless sky with rollergirl filling the air
i’m playing it in my head right now, it;s so good
The whole ost is impeccable but this track ratchets up the tension:
