Frankly I am angry we are 2 days into 2024 and they haven’t releasesd Final Fantasy XVI on steam yet. The Game Awards Performance announced “Exclusive until December 31st,2023”.

lost records combines the rewind mechanic from the first life is strange with zelda-style world state puzzles moving back and forth between 1995 and 2022. reviled by the fix-it fic portion of the audience because despite more reactivity than ever it only reinforces the theme that you cannot fix the past
the final shape releases as a hot mess because they outsourced QA for the first time in ten years and sony dissolves bungie’s board. the witness diegetically views the bugs as just cause to end the world with time compression. downer EoE ending, exemplary raid, i’m done, you’re done. the final shape is nothing

Microsoft announces their own competitor to the Switch and Steam Deck. Besides Game Pass, the main selling point of the machine in their marketing is the ability to “squirt” games to nearby players.
Rumors of a 2025 Metroid 6 are deflated after leaked screenshots emerge of a MercurySteam developed reboot of Yoshio Sakamoto’s Gumshoe.
Jumping Flash 4 is announced with a trailer implying it is a gritty reboot of the series, with the original war-weary Robbit worrying about his daughter’s future. The final game turns out to be tonally much closer to The Tears of Opa-Opa.

Game for 2024 season is renamed and released as F2 2024, releases to critical acclaim and becomes the next big thing.

Anyways @OneSecondBefore mentioned “there are a lot of cool video games this year” and I just wanted a thread where they can be listed and considered as we are almost halfway through it. Of the few 2024 releases I’ve played Isles of Sea and Sky is the clear standout, although I’ll add shout outs to Moonlight Pulse and 20 Small Mazes for having some neatness to them. Window Ware doesn’t quite work but I love the concept so mention here as well.

This was a strong year in terms of indie games I was interested in getting released, I’ve probably gotten to more of them near release than any other year in recent memory and I still have a few I had to put off.

I’d say it’s been a year dominated by long RPGs for me. Only gotten to 40 games which is lower than my usual. Has also been a lot of trying to get into fighting games again which ate up a lot of hours. I think I wanna get through a larger number of shorter indies now. These 70 hour games are too dang long most of the time.
