Is that the one starring Taye Diggs’ arms
looking forward to this one
has anyone seen the other spinoff “Wellington Paranormal”? i wanna check that out
just give taika waititi more tv shows in general tbh
oh good I was afraid he wasn’t actually involved in it and it was just spun off after the movie
Nightflyers is a ship in space sci-fi! It frontloads all the god damn horror cliches rather than building up the creeping dread in the first episode and turned me off on watching further FUCK.
It’s a adaptation from the movie that was adapted from the book that George R. R. Martin wrote.
I watched until episode six, “The Sacred Gift”, at which point I was pretty sure I just straight-up didn’t like most of the show and jumped ship.
The premise of that one, which I will spoil tag later on, is that they find a derelict ship from like 7 years ago, which at their level of technology was a pretty interesting premise. They board the ship and find a coven of only women, who have somehow found a way to stay alive without supplies, all alone in the void. They are mostly a crew of extremely intelligent scientists and specialists.
Turns out, and this is extremely fucked-up so, warning, they went crazy due to an alien signal, killed all but a few of the men, and strap the remaining men to tables, where they use a pumping machine to harvest each man’s semen (they do this to two of the main characters), which they then use alien technology to grow like adult fetuses in these transparent body bags, and eat the human meat of for sustenance. The crew ends up escaping without fixing anything or destroying the ship, which seemed just a teensy bit irresponsible.
Soooo felt like they were going just for the shock value, to no greater end, and eh? Wasn’t worth it for me.
There are some things I liked, such as the low level of technology, the weird way they do “holographics”, the psychic stuff, Angus Sampson and Maya Eshet. Wasn’t enough, at the end of the day.
Whoa, og x-files looks pretty amazing all uprezzed and in widescreen over on prime. The early seasons used to look pretty dire
I agree, this is what led me to watch it in the first place. The actors didn’t have enough time in the first episode to really endear themselves to me so I can’t personally remark on Maya Eshet but word online is that she did a really good job.
I’m kind of losing my mind at how good riverdale is
I never really thought to myself “what if a CW show were made in the most perfect high camp style imaginable” before now
it’s such a genius use of the source material
I think it gets more tedious as it goes on, but yeah, it starts strong and definitely has its moments. That any of it manages to work is pretty baffling, and they went well beyond that bar.
the one-liners are so joyously, stupidly dense
when the rich girl called now-hispanic Veronica “Frida Shallow” off the cuff in like the second or third episode I did an actual spit take
Really wanted to like Russian Doll but I kinda hated all the characters except for Natasha Lyonne’s, who was great. I tried to describe it to the missus and all I could come up with was “groundhog day but with self-absorbed new yorkers”.
The first episode was almost intriguing enough to get me to keep going but…
Of course, Legends of Tomorrow did the definitive groundhog day show so that might color my opinion as well.
You are definitely expected to hate some of the characters
I adored every character
the best way I can describe Riverdale – and someone else probably already has – is as, like, the millennial-Nancy equivalent of daytime TV
it is immensely enjoyable
even implausibly sexy Jughead works
If you enjoy Russian Doll, I recommend Search Party. Very different premise but both are the few “late 20s/30s aimless people in NYC” shows I can tolerate.
It’s one of those bizarre, barely advertised TBS shows that is way better than you’d expect. I’ve been meaning to write something about it since it got zero attention and people would probably love it if it were on a channel people watched.
I found that (and a Jason Schwartzman vehicle it strongly reminded me of) to be a bit too twee actually
and Russian doll is definitely not that
god though Natasha Lyonne is wasted on Fred Armisen
wow what? truly
this soundtrack is so good, even if half of it is just John Maus
i mean Nadia’s charming sure but idk about likeable
