The truest sign of cult status is posting about a game in the wrong thread because it inspires such passion in you
does anyone remember when my whole personality was marathon, specifically marathon infinity
that’s a mac game though so i just failed my own thread
ah oh no, I more meant that I would have to Hydlide post if we weren’t sticking to just PC.
though Hydlide was originally a PC game, so….
also surprised no one has said vangers yet. also e.y.e but maybe that’s too modern
I left those off my list assuming that @Tegiminis would pop into this thread to post about those two games specifically
With emulation isn’t everything a PC game now?
“PC” games? I thought we called them “woke” now
sometimes, they can be PC games squared:
As time goes on, I think I find myself further and further in the ‘Monster Land might actually be the best WonderBoy’ camp as well
WHY YOU GOTTA BLOW UP MY SCENE LIKE THAT?! tru tho.
Vangers is a beautiful mix of “fuck the player” game and narrative design, Russian post-human futurism, and vehicular combat and trading. In other words, it’s the first Strand-type game; eat shit Kojima. I love recommending it to people and watching them bounce off of it. Credited as the inspiration for Pathologic!
EYE Divine Cybermancy is imsim maximalism and Sven Co-op combat hell married to the deranged 40k fanfiction of tabletop-playing Frenchmen. Forcing the player to beat it three times to get an “true ending” that resolves nothing is incredibly funny.
My extra contributions are:
NeonXSZ - Descent by way of Diablo, set inside a computer system. Trade and fight to get ship parts, make a craft that can push through all the computer layers. Essentially a game that consists entirely of “trade lane piracy” from Freelancer.
Fractal Block World - A game of infinite recursion by Zach Barth’s college project partner. All the enemies are voiced by family members and the game is dense with secrets. To turn on hard mode you have to guess the developer’s favorite anime: Elfen Lied
BulletGarden - Rhythm-centric vertical shooter with an extremely odd collection of 300+ weapons. Perhaps the most underappreciated game on this list; a must-play for aspiring action game designers imo.
I fucking love Monster Land. At the start of the pandemic it was one of my little projects. Trying to beat the Sega Ages Switch port where they have the joystick wiggle mapped to a button. I never managed to finish it but I got pretty far…
I fantasize about someone someday making a new age arcade ARPG. Not me though. That shit seems really hard.
bullet garden duuuuuuude
Perhaps there’d be less confusion if we had more than one thread title template
