I didn’t remember why Hellsinker was on my wishlist, but I picked it up on sale yesterday. I almost didn’t get through the interminable tutorial, which the game informed me was the “brief” version.
The game itself wasn’t doing much for me, but I liked the design and the music of the first boss (and the second one, which is as far as I made it).
On reflection, I think it’s funny how demanding this game is. I probably won’t play it a lot. (I mean, do we even need other new scrolling shooters when Crimzon Clover is right there?) But I also won’t simply uninstall it and forget about it as I was considering as I died continuously on the tutorial and marveled at how difficult the actual game must be. (It’s a lot easier than the tutorial, at least in its early stages.)
Hellsinker owns! The easiest character is just now starting to “click” for me. I mostly ignore the variables except Sol/Luna and just blast away. Also making one character have an placeable invincibility bubble kicks ass.
This being one of my favorite games, I’ve been curious about this update. But while most scrolling shooters add “arrange mode” as DLC, this one appears to have an entirely separate listing. I will definitely try it, though, whatever it is.
does anyone else just lose their ability to track everything in Crimzon Clover? I keep getting hit by bullets I don’t see due to the sheer amount of medals on the screen.
Hey I went to Mikado and got to play Senjin Aleste. It was extremely generous with my one credit on casual mode. Felt like a modern home port honestly with the amount of options and modes. I didn’t have time to look or read anything (because I wanted to play other things.)
The character art is definitely too horny but is pretty much gone once you are in game. In Casual mode each of the weapons options is actually a different ship with their own lifebar that I could keep refilling (somehow).
Sort of like GG Aleste 3 there is just tons of stuff on screen at all times and most of it is just basic spaceships. I’ll note again I don’t like Aleste’s upgrade system and think Aleste’s stages are too long. I think the same here. Feel like I spent 5 minutes on each stage and got to Stage 3.
It looks good and is clearly coming home at some point. And I will not watch the youtuber that somehow stole the game already in protest!!!
Is worth taking a second to talk about Namco’s Thunderceptor 2 . What a beautiful machine. The screen is linticular? So it has a mild 3D effect. The movement of the joystick is wonderful smooth tilting it to go up and down. It has a gas pedal for some reason. Everything online seems to be emulation with no real documentation (in English) how the actual machine plays…until me right now. I kept thinking Video Games Are Good.
We really have fallen into a bounty of shooters both re-releases, remakes, new indies, new Japanese professional, and new doujin. So many that I can’t begin to play them all in a year.
Deathsmiles is still pretty good. I could barely handle the 26 minute play time. I just can’t handle something that intense anymore. i still need to run through DS2X with the ?trans girl? To confirm that hideous line that made me go fuck you to the game 10 years ago.
Like wrist fatigue made me already have to retire any racing game. Having to retire my favorite genre will break my heart but also let me relax more because I won’t be torn between “I should invest more time in X” versus “Do I buy new Game C because I will be one of the weirdos to do so?”
That said Moon Dancer and Grand Cross Renovation look interesting
