the end of MegaTen as we know it

there’s quite a lot i love about the game design-wise (especially early on), but the fiddly “voluntary” quality of the balance bothered me eventually too. it’s one thing for bosses to have a level minimum to encourage exploration, but if you do just a little too much side stuff you risk trivializing it because the scaling is so harsh in both directions, so there were a few fights where i found myself arbitrarily going back and forth until i could just squeak by… on the other hand i played on normal, so i’ll try on hard this time and see if it feels different. otherwise i would be happy if they significantly tweaked the endgame even for the original route, it was really underwhelming and ended up souring me a bit on a game i generally liked a lot. not into the designs for the new route but i’m still down to play more megaten and at least thematically it sounds much more interesting.
