The art of others

We have a thread for sharing our own visual output, here’s a thread for links to others’

I just realized this should have been under “Input” instead, probably. Oh well. Maybe a mod will move it.

Here are a couple blog posts commemorating Jean Moebius Giraud:

Here is an old classic, a series of photographs from an abandoned Japanese theme park:

And here are a couple of museums’ digital collections:

In the past year or two I made a list of a ton of artists from Japanese Twitter because the 60 minute drawing tags were blowing my mind and I wanted to see more of them. Quite a few of them had images or videos showing their process, which is really helpful for visualizing things in my brain and learning how this whole digital drawing thing goes.

relevant tag links:
https://twitter.com/hashtag/背景版深夜の真剣お絵描き60分一本勝負?f=images&vertical=default&src=hash 60 minute scenery drawing tag
https://twitter.com/hashtag/ダークファンタジー版深夜の真剣お絵描き一発勝負?f=images&vertical=default&src=hash dark fantasy tag! skill level’s a little lower but it has some pretty out there stuff

and here’s a few that left an impression on me:
https://twitter.com/yoshida_seiji/media 60 min scenery, often with gifs showing progress, which is super helpful to me
https://twitter.com/Niy_Koubou/media rough and sort of unrefined feeling, fair amounts of 60min entries, minor amounts of touhou, main twitter feed is a ridiculous amount of retweeted art
https://twitter.com/flandore/media 60min dailies of what on earth am i looking at touhous

etc. you get the idea. They’re not necessarily finished works, but I think that’s part of the attraction for me, they’re more about getting the idea across quickly and efficiently.

No worries. I think you can actually move/recategorise posts yourself now by editing the title.

I’d still like to expand the library, but sadly getting funds to put it online has been… slow. The game art library that I have locally now has over 2 million images of art from about 150,000 videogames (including screenshots, packshots and still images). Encompasses about 15TB of data.

I caught an old, out of copyright book on illustrative graphic design making the rounds on my feed and this thing is a gold mine.

A few of the photo series are NSFW but I feel like members of the SB photo club will enjoy this work
