Just to piggyback off your idea, I think it’d be fun if everyone replaced “best” with a different word or phrase, just to make the list more personalised or entertaining…
I feel like “best” can end up being kinda limiting or predictable or just… empty feeling? Personally a lot more interested in hearing about people’s strange relationships or thoughts about games than what they think is the cream of the crop.

Like everybody else my list skews to the early years of the 21st. I actually came up blank with those last two so I just put a recent Mario and Zelda in there. Almost Ico on there but it would have felt wrong to have two Team Ico games.
Thinking on it since first seeing this thread it is undeniable that 2000-2005 was some kind of golden age for video games. It hasn’t been all down hill from there since then but it kind of feels like it sometimes.
The 21st Century started in 2001. Deus Ex is late 20th century.

The ten best games of the worst year for games (was it 2009? I feel like it was 2009)
I guess the worst year is start from 2022 until now. The impact of Pandemic and AIGC, all crashed video game as an special art. Only left scandal, remaster, pay2win and community rage outside, even Tears of the Kingdom or Elden Ring can’t rebuild their legacy again.
And 2009, so many good DS games outside. Chinatown War, Pokemon Gold, 999, Love Plus, Dragon Quest IX, Rune Factory 3, Puyo Puyo 7.
