yeah I’m not saying it could have been done on PS3, it’s just that those kinds of details – while certainly important – are much more subtle than the kind of improvements we saw from 6th to 7th gen.
Yeah I just find it interesting how universe concepts align to hardware power. Famously Toy Story starred toys because they knew how to render shiny plastic and animate a small number of joints, and that pattern recurs everywhere. For instance, FFVII’s universe is a gritty one full of metal, concrete and rock, much like Quake’s. That “brown look” wasn’t purely a 90s grimdark style trend.
PS3-level power unlocked most of the concepts already, but there’s surely still a few sitting on the backburner because they can’t satisfyingly pull it off yet.
What, Bloodborne is a huge jump in visuals over Dark Souls 2
Apparently the new chip in the switch might be a teensy bit better on the graphics side. Might help out in portable mode.
The GPU in the Switch is quite a bit more capable than the PS360. Not only in hardware shader support, but also raw power.
in portable mode it’s actually close to breaking even, like the same ~200 gflops
y’all are nerds
Yeah there will probably never be as dramatic a jump as we saw with like gta 3 to gta 4 but I would of course be pleased to be proven wrong.
At some point they’ll be able to ray trace everything in real time at a trillion pixels and it’ll be photorealistic but by the time it happens I doubt anyone will actually notice how extraordinary it is.
I’d say the jump from this to GTA3 is bigger
although I’m serious this is actually really impressive and I dearly love this game
What game is that?
I miss the heady, experimental era of early 3D games but whenever I go back I’m like no it is definitely much better now than it was then.
Mizzurna Falls, apparently one of the first open-world games
My replacement joysticks are supposed to arrive on Monday
I’ve owned this thing for like a year and a half and don’t use the joycons heavily
So… Yeah, it’d be nice if nintendo actually had to fix them
Though I’m sure the outcome of that suit will be that everyone getsba coupon for $0.87 off of a new grey right joycon and the lawyers get $43 million each
I don’t know about vastly, it’s like way less powerful than mid range phones, with a 720p screen and poor battery life. it works, but its on the cusp of not working. I get that phones are stupid expensive and the switch is reasonably priced, but I don’t think the processing power of these phones is what is driving their price gouging. a 2018 ipad is constantly on sale for $250 and everything about it blows a switch away
the GPU is actually still fairly good compared to what you get in phones, especially for the price, especially for mid-2017. ARM moves fast and staking out any kind of reference platform is an achievement.
the CPU not so much, but a) non-Apple ARM is much worse than Apple ARM in that department, and b) console CPUs have been shitty for years now and have made do
the 720p thing is also extremely fine in my book if it means rendering contemporary games at literally one twentieth the flops of what you’d want for a comparable experience on PC
the Switch is good because it has a fan
Nintendo broke the code
if you cool silicon, it works better
also a USB C battery pack is extremely cheap at this point and if you run a phone SOC flat out for three hours you’ll drain that battery too
Don’t hate the player, hate the game
virtua racing is so good. I can’t get over how gorgeous this port is.
I hate to be that “why isn’t my favorite game on my console of choice” dipshit, but I’m pretty sure that if Fantasy Zone and Dragon Spirit arcade ports made it to this thing I’d be eternally content.
Fantasy Zone is on the list.
Bother Namco for Dragon Spirit.
Anyone got that joycon drift?
