Switch!

there was a jellyfish that was absolutely killing me in Mario Tennis adventure mode, on the boat with a big pole in the court. getting better and finally beating it was extremely satisfying.

tried online mode and that seems dead unfortunately. i got one game but the connection was terrible. the mechanics here are so solid, it’s the best mario tennis game ever from that perspective.

if anyone has this and wants to try online sometime, lemme know

I don’t have it, and I probably won’t be able to pick it up anytime soon, but your posts have prompted me to wishlist it.

Yeah, it’s very good! I played something like 30 hours of it online; you were getting matches instantly at all levels of the tournament when it came out. It mostly died in like 2 months :frowning:

Bowser Jr. was incredibly broken on release, so there was a critical point where literally half of all matches you were facing a Bowser Jr., until he got nerfed (and is now the worst character in the game).

EDIT: there’s a Reddit thread from a month ago that’s saying it only takes 30 seconds to get into a match in the NA queue, but it might depend on time of day. I just know the last time I tried (2 months ago) I waited 5 minutes, didn’t get a match, and quit.

I am way less upset about not having a proper d-pad than I thought I’d be. Tetris 99 makes perfect sense on four little arrow buttons and I’ve even been playing Celeste without feeling weird.

The recent discussions have made me paranoid and afraid to use my joycons for fear they will break tho

Mario Tennis online scene is not so grim, at least tonight. I just played several online tournaments in a row and only had to wait a couple minutes at most for a match. damn this is fun. had an insane 50+ shot rally in the final of Standard mode tournament, and i won off a broken racket at deuce in the first game.

Virtua Racing is on the North American eShop as of today. I’ve played a few beginner circuit races in Grand Prix mode (20-lap endurance), which feels great and relaxing. The HD graphics and long draw distance in this remaster are👌

But the leaderboards are locked behind a Switch Online member paywall :frowning:

What are the good two-player games that can be played only with the two packed-in joycons?

somehow I wouldn’t have expected this level of simulation from Mario Tennis

the puyo puyo tetris demo lets you play as much multiplayer as you want

Snipper Clips not only works with the two joycons, it absolutely demands that you use them and will not accept any other controllers.

Anyway

It’s pretty good (for getting into arguments)

Captain Toad co-op feels pretty tacked on but it’s fun nonetheless. And that game rules.

No, it’s fine.

I was with you until they patched in full control customization and I could bind block to a sane position

Towerfall, Overcooked, Necrodancer

Game also asks me if I want to buy a Switch Online membership everytime I finish a race :frowning: :frowning:

Also, it seems like my times only show up in the internal leaderboards immediately after name entry. Any other time, the attract mode shows the default Yu Suzuki & Co rankings. And Grand Prix mode only has online rankings. That’s the mode I prefer to play. Is this how Nintendo finally sells me a Switch Online membership: by contracting M2 and Sega to annoy me into subscribing?
