NSMBU is fine. It’s more challenging and has better music than the other NSMB games. And between New Mario, New Luigi, and challenge modes, the deluxe package has a tonne of 2D Mario to offer. But it still lacks that joyous spark of 3D Land, 3D World, Makers, and the older Mario platformer games.

this works, the system picks them up at a system level as pro controllers and they work as such, right down to mapping ZR to the GCN controller’s Z button (which means if you play a game that needs ZL, you’re outta luck). also obviously you would be missing out on the stick push-ins as well.
a ton of games with either configurable or simpler controls work fabulously (Mario Kart, Tennis, ARMS, I think Odyssey does okay on it because they double up on the what the shoulders and triggers do). with that said, I think Amazon has pro controllers on a pretty decent discount (50 bucks as opposed to the 70 MSRP). PowerA also makes (officially licensed) wireless pro controllers in the mold of a GCN controller (so the have both triggers and shoulders) and also pro controller clones that have extra back buttons like fancy expensive controllers for other systems but they don’t charge an arm and a leg for them. and of course, the adapters for using controllers from other systems are like, 20 or so bucks.

I generally don’t use screen protectors on phones, do these things scratch if you look at them funny

Unless you’re throwing it loose into a bookbag or dropping it I don’t see what would scratch it. I treat my possessions like shit and mine still looks pristine without a protector, although I do only use it at home (both docked and undocked). Maybe if I traveled with it I’d be more worried?
I throw my Switch loose into a laptop bag where it gets comfortable with my Vita and even the protector looks brand new at this point
also my system is missing a decently sized chunk from a corner so it’s not made of Nintendium like Game Boys were
i have a case for when i go out with my switch but its like WOW THIS IS A ZELDA CASE CHECK OUT THE GAMER OVER HERE so i never go out with my switch
