It gives me the same feeling as entering the second decade of '80s visual flashbacks now that we’re into outright revisionism. There’s so many choices in this that would be alien to the era they’re mimicking (my god just the way they’ve increased aliasing and shimmer at every possible extent and actively fight against readability) that it can’t really be recognized as a throwback anymore but a fetishization of certain visual signifiers; it’s the vector grid & mountain & sun & palm tree

Every time a Nintendo fanlad complains that Earthbound isn’t on the Switch Online thing yet Nintendo adds yet another game they’ve never heard of – and I think that’s just lovely.

i still think it’s ridiculous nintendo haven’t realised they could easily charge a tenner a month (hey, genx americans would no doubt pay more) for a subscription service with a huge chunk of their library

Mario 3D World is still great and Toad goes vrooom. The movement looked off at first, but it feels nice to run in circles.

Nitpicks:

1. I don’t think you can use the D-pad for movement.
2. The first island in Bowser’s Fury (“Fur Step”) is a set piece that ends with you jumping down into the rest of the world. You should be able to return by flinging yourself from a flagpole with a propeller box equipped, but there’s an invisible wall there.

I’ve never heard of this game before and now I really want to pick it up… too bad the Europe release is “Q2 2021” which means my Switch will be a MHRise machine. Has anyone picked this up or played the original PS2 release?
