I never actually played a Paper Mario are they all good? Like is there a good chance this one will be good too?
My understanding is the they’ve been going downhill since the wii?
I’ve only played the original and the Gamecube one, Thousand Year Door. Those were both pretty great. I’ve definitely heard mixed reviews of the later ones. If this one is as sick as it looks then it’ll probably represent a major comeback. Nintendo has been pretty on point lately though so I wouldn’t be too surprised.
this does not look good enough for how bad these have been for the past 14 years imo
that’s true buuuuut they made just two paper marios that were, like, deeply interesting jrpg riffs, and they’re both great, and then all the games that came out with the paper mario name afterward were not that at all
from this trailer i honestly can’t tell if this one is! but if it’s paper mario jrpg 3 i’m definitely very in
Those bits it showed of the battle system did seem reminiscent of the older Paper Mario videos I saw back in the day.
i think when that report of a bunch of Mario ports and remasters being made for Switch went around a while back, it also mentioned a new Paper Mario that would be a return to form of sorts.
i never really played any of them beyond the first n64 game (played more M&L for GBA), so i can’t say anything beyond knowing how much people love the gamecube game but the style and graphics here are so engrossing to me that i’d be totally into trying this one
MODS

One of the most striking and iconic design choices of early Paper Mario was to keep damage and health numbers extremely low for an RPG, the latter games did away with that and the new one hasn’t come back to it (Mario has 110 HPs in the screenshot above)
Hmm
A tiny bit of the battle sytem:
i am mostly having a pokmonian withered dread reaction to this paper mario game
I loved Color Splash mostly in spite of the sticker system, it was the first one in many iterations to capture the charm of the originals. I’m definitely excited!
I would like to state for the record that while the gameplay portion of Super Paper Mario is mostly an absolute nothing, the writing is so utterly charming as to make up for the lacking game design.
Seriously the Otaku Cameleon and trip to the underworld withe dire it’s implications about every other mario game alone would make it worth some kind of recognition, and there’s more where that weirdness came from on top of it!
So there’s about three at least goodish Paper Mario games, IMO.
NESflix Update: Rygar, Operation Logic Bomb, Wild Guns, and Panel de Pon
WHY ARE ANCIENT TOADS SO FUCKING TALL AND RIPPED
anyway this combat looks sick i hated sticker star so fucking much though so its gonna have to be REALLY good to win my heart
It’s so upsetting
Like, Paper Mario is already offensive bc it started down the road of giving Toad* makeup, mustaches, and hair both human and mushroom cap pigtails (???)
This is canonizing Patrick Gil’s disgusting harassment campaign and I am so disappointed
* I believe that there is one Toad with many bodies I am a spintoadzist
I am only kind of joking. I was thinking about this like all day yesterday. This is my sonic’s arms are not blue moment tbh.
yeee I’ve been hankering to play some rygar
i mean this would track with the fungus thing right?

That is *funny*. You think you *see* Toad but Toad are not *light reflections*.
Maybe you think Toad are *many bubbles* too. It is such a joke.
Toad are not *many bubbles* like *campers*. Toad are just Toad.
I am Toad. I am one with many *fingers*.
My *fingers* reach through into *heavy space* and you *see* *Toad bubbles*
but it is really *fingers*.
here is a video of Tetris The Absolute The Grand Master 2 Plus running on the Switch, rotated display zoomed in @ 5x to maximize the single-player field, with a single attached joycon and accordingly remapped controls, via a homescreen nsp forwarding shortcut to Retroarch’s Final Burn Neo core, using a slightly modified Fake-Bloom/Intel preset of the CRT Royale shader
