Watched the TOS ep “A Taste of Armageddon” for the first time, it’s a great one.
I did get a laugh out of this plot device, though.

In an interview with SFX Magazine as reported by SlashFilm, Akiva Goldsman was asked about whether the Star Trek franchise has plans to use digital technology to deep fake legacy characters the way franchises like Star Wars have. Goldsman indicated he’s not against the idea, but Star Trek has “no plans” in place to do so. He then mentioned that if Star Trek does digitally resurrect legacy characters, it might be to retcon events Star Trek’s current creative teams aren’t satisfied with, like Kirk’s death in Generations. Read his quote below:
“My friend Terry Matalas is not alone in feeling frustrated with Kirk’s death in canon. It’s why he put his body at Daystrom Station, right?”
Since I’ve decided not to skip anything, DS9 is going to take me forever. But I got to “Move Along Home” last night. It was silly, but not as silly as that storybook episode of Strange New Worlds.
Actually, MAH reminded me of what I watched of Discovery in that you have to suspend disbelief to accept characters going along with things for the sake of the story.
Also, the doctor character in this show is consistently annoying. Not always, but pretty often.
Bashir gets much less annoying and more palatable as the show goes on. I’d say after season one he evens out.
every bashir interaction is like
/
and i hate to love it
I HAAAATED Bashir at first so I totally get it. and yay!!! move along home!
I’m extremely pro-bashir but I think the actor is very handsome and he played his character as an oblivious tit on purpose which I appreciated.
i think the actor being incredibly pretty is what put me off at first! he totally wore on me in like, the second season i just bullied the screen non stop every time i saw him for a bunch of episodes. i think i turned when like, the show wants you to. to when they talk about his parents nad his genius augments or wahtever. its been a while
and like hes also BFF with my two favorite characters so itd be impossible to hate on him forever
bashir is prob my favorite star trek character ever haha
what can I say I’m a sucker for a pretty face and also he’s a legit really good actor who the writers never knew what to do with (because the famously homophobic exec producers of star trek in the 90s (Braga especially iirc) wouldn’t let anything gay happen)
i just really love bullying pretty guys
I think that’s what I like about the character too, he’s a pretty boy who is so easy to bully. We meet him introducing himself to kira nerys like “I’ve always wanted to work in the untamed wilderness at the furthest reaches of space” and she cuts him down with “This ‘wilderness’ is my home.”
I love “well meaning but oblivious and tactless” as a personality trait, and pair that with ‘bullyable pretty boy’ and I’m content
He’s just like me fr
Honestly the biggest fantasy of all time is a mensch like O’Brien befriending and sticking up for a beautiful dweeb like Bashir… I want what they have
bashir has one of the best star trek character arcs if only because where he starts and where he ends up are radically different despite him being always bullyable
So pumped for this crossover. I cannot wait.

Okay I finally got around to Picard S3. I binged it all in a week. I can’t believe they turned this thing around! To the point that like, maybe S1&2 didn’t even happen. Like let’s pretend they didn’t exist. Data didn’t come back and then die. Picard isn’t a weird robot now. Any references to s1&2 are just like, some episode from TNG I don’t remember.
So yeah, this season owned. Ro Laren came back!! And Worf was written perfectly. They can send Patrick Stewart home now. But at the same time while I was watching it I was like… is this TOO much fanservice? David Lynch made everyone look like a god damn fool for expecting the end of Twin Peaks: The Return to be some big feel-good reunion where Cooper saves the day.
But uhh, idk maybe it’s okay to let us have this one after the trauma of COVID (that’s gonna my new excuse for everything).

I’m still slowly making my way through DS9, and the episode I watched last night about the cartographer in a wheelchair left me with two questions:
I looked up the second question, and it turns out that it was answered in a TNG episode. It’s Prometheus but the bald alien progenitors are smaller and not as pale.
i do like the jonathan frakes/marina sirtis interview where she was like LOOK IF YOU FIND US NON HUMANOID LOOKING ACTORS WE’LL MAKE NON HUMANOID LOOKING ALIENS!!!
