Did Sonic CD have the satellite transmitters that turn Sonic into a signal, or did Mania invent it? Those are an especially mindbending extension of the transport tube trope.

It’s unique to Mania!

I’ll also join team “Hydrocity Zone rules,” I actually thought that was a pretty universal opinion!

Sonic 2 Zone Rankings: God Tier: Chemical Plant, Hill Top
Good Tier: Casino Night, Mystic Cave, the final one (the big ol airship)
Average Tier: Emerald Hill, Oil Ocean
Shit Tier: Aquatic Ruin
Even Worse Than Shit Tier: Metropolis

Fun fact: Sonic 2 has 20 acts, Sonic 3 and Knuckles together have 24! So yes, Sonic 2 is way too fuckin long.

Of course, Sonic Mania is already at 20 for me and who knows how much more there is, BUT it’s different cuz a) the premise of the game, b) every level is as good as a “Good Tier” Sonic 2 level at worst, c) u can save

there’s a second sonic cd level?! why not do a sonic 2006 level while we’re at it!!

the boss was really cool though

I just assumed the Sonic CD love was a nod to how Christian Whitehead’s mobile port of Sonic CD was what got him in the door to Sega in the first place

i wish they’d port his other ports to consoles. and port sonic cd to ps4.

i’m glad everyone can agree that metropolis zone sucks.

I thought they did last generation?

Nope. His Sonic 2 with the new zone is only in the ios port.

Man this game makes me happy. Liek just happy. Can’t believe y’all with responsibilites have already finished it.

The best part of this game was watching Marina build a huge puyo chain only to have Robotnik top out for no reason

I got so fucking hype and started losing my shit like “aw yeah time for a sick puyo battle” and I was so disappointed.
But then I started thinking of it in terms of canon and it was suddenly a lot funnier. Like I laughed at the thought of Robotnik challenging Sonic to a game that he sucks at and losing. Villain incompetency is always great

Man I never knew this was a problem until the internet. Like I just got it. Everytime it comes up it just baffles me.

If I remember correctly, it’s the only time in the game that you use the up and down buttons to actually move something up and down. It’s also a rare case where you’re directly controlling something that’s NOT Sonic. Plus, the barrel gives feedback in response to your jumping on it, with certain patterns of jumping causing it to move up and down higher or lower, giving the player misleading evidence that jumping can do the job. Add to that the lack of any signifiers at all for how the barrel works and you’ve got yourself a classic UX problem.

Whoops, I guess you can’t just restart the act to retry the special stage when you lose

As I recall, on the first barrel, jumping can do the job, and only on the second barrel do you need to use the d-pad. So it’s like the perfect anti-training.
